But I trhink that is not relevant as it shows the same symptoms on Emby for Android.

I am talking a

Hi,
Thanks for your answer.
My message was obviously incomplete, but the problem is, the mesages cannot be edited after some minutes anymore 😞

Anyways, I looked at the link and I have ZERO idea what I should do from there.
I described my problem with my own words in another post...

I can describe it here.

Emby server installed on Linux.

The version running is 4.8.10.0.

I use Emby ONLY to serve music files and nothing else (no video).

The server is started and it indexes my music and I can browse the music from Emby app or Emby on Browser.
The problem is when I want to use third party software to read my music files.
I want to do that because unless I am wrong, Emby "client" does not offer EQ abilities.
So I would like to use a client that has EQ abilities like Neutron, USB Audio PLayer Pro (UAPP) or Shanling Eddict.
All those three apps and mConnect (so 4 apps) show the same problem.

Let's see what UAPP does.
I launch UAPP. I ask it to search for UPnP/DLNA servers and it finds the Emby server without problems.
When I select it, it asks my if I want to browse my music by Artist, Album artist or album... (among other choices I NEVER use).
I ask to browse by ALBUM => no problem
I ask to browse by ARTIST => it display a list of artist => I click an artist and I get "No tracks found" error mesage.
I ask to browse by Album artist => it displays a list of Album artists => I click on one of those => Error message "No tracks found".

Same happens with Shanling Eddict, but slightly different.
I can browse by album, but not by artist. If I browse by Artist or Album artist, then the app simply quits.

mConnect is maybe a little more helpful.
Because if I browse by artist, it displays an icon that is not the picture of the artist but an icon like if the thing was a file... not a folder.

I can tell almost for sure that this did not happen in earlier versions of Emby.
I'll try to see if I can find older versions of Emby (maybe downgrade command may help here) and try to find which version works and report here whjen I find so you can investigate on what changed...

Regards.

Hi,

As I said, I trried earlier versions of the Emby server using "downgrade" on Linux Arch.

I may stress one point : it looks like on more recent versions the "Artist" or "Album Artist" is considered as a "file" and not a "folder".
UAPP reports exactly "Failed to read track"...
So the artist is considered as a "Track" when it indexes it seems...

Now there is a SUPER weird thing.
If I downgrade and relaunch the emby server, it works.
BUT if on the same version, I restart the emby-server => failure again.

Also something else super weird : Symfonium and Neutron player do work correctly.
So maybe the problem is with the players ?
That may be, but then why does it work when I re-install the emby-server and why does it stop working when I relaunch it ?
The plot thickens 😞

I'll try to see if I can retrieve logs so you can see what is happening.
Or make my life easier and switch to another media server...
I used Neutron and UAPP's own things and they work.

Regards.

Hi, if you need immediate relief I think this is resolved on the 4.9 beta channel. We are looking into how we can backport it to 4.8. Thanks.

Hi Luke,

Thanks a lot for your help and answer.
I'll try to see if I can find that 4.9 Beta and install it on my computer.
I've seen there is a 4.9.3.apk beta for Android.
I experienced problems on both computer and on Android powered streamer.
So I'll try both and  report 🙂

Thanks a lot again.

Regards.

Hi,

Just to mention : the Emby server for Android in beta is 4.9.0.30.apk. This is the one I am testing.
So far it seems there is no packaged beta 4.9.x for Arch Linux.
I checked the testing repo, it has nothing... and core repos show only 4.8.10.0 version.
Not too bad because I would like to use the Android powered streamer as the main source 🙂

I'll report when indexing the files is done...
Takes a lot of time because there are about half of classical files and it looks difficult to retrieve relevant metadata 🙂

Regards.

Hi Luke,

Thanks for the follow up.

It seems the 4.9.0.30.apk solved the problem. I can now browse my files by album artist. So yes, it seems that at some poiint, the album artist indeed showed a trrack instead of a folder (or something the like).

I will now get in touch with the developer of USB Audio Player Pro to see if he can fix two things : 1°) the pixelized cover art in UAPP (not so in other apps) and 2°) why it takes 15 seconds to display the list of 200 album artists (not so in other apps where it takes 2 seconds or so).

By the way, you may wonder why I don't use the Emby client. If so, that is because, unless I have overseen it, it does not offer EQ abilities 😞 If it would I'd use that one instead 🙂
