Bubb68 0 Posted October 17, 2024 Posted October 17, 2024 I wanted to see if there is a way to use emby and play my local movies without Internet? I currently have movies on a hard drive and connected to my computer with emby server running on it. that computer is connected to my home router. The router does not have internet on it. I connect my Emby apps on Roku, to that router. When I open the emby app it goes to "emby connect" and says i am not connected to the internet. If I then hit the back button, it allows me to add a server manually. when I type in the IP address to my computer running the emby server and use the 8096 port, Emby says it cannot find it and make sure it is turned on. I would really like to be able to watch my locally stored movies on Emby while at my home without internet. All of my Roku devices are connected to the same router my Emby server is on. Can you guys offer any advise?
Happy2Play 9780 Posted October 17, 2024 Posted October 17, 2024 Should work but sounds like a firewall issue on the PC. Is the network set to Private or Public?
ebr 16169 Posted October 17, 2024 Posted October 17, 2024 Hi. Yes it sounds like a connectivity issue at the network level. Have you confirmed that the Roku itself will operate without internet?
Bubb68 0 Posted October 17, 2024 Author Posted October 17, 2024 thanks guys. that seems to have worked (at least for the time being). out of curiosity, why does not having internet create this issue? for the past 3 years up until 2 weeks ago, I had internet and it worked perfect with the firewall turned on. Now since the internet is not working, my local EMBY server wouldn't work with the firewall turned on.
ebr 16169 Posted October 17, 2024 Posted October 17, 2024 Probably, once you lost internet access, Windows saw your network as something "new" and may have marked it public for safety - which would have blocked pretty much everything.
markie 2 Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 (edited) Similar , but not same problem here. MY local network IS connected to internet BUT when I open the Emby app on my roku (V4.1 build 26) I was able to verify a firewall issue on my server (192.168.6.37), and I also did (trouble-shot myself...) disable, and then make sure the firewall off/then on with a private network was set ok I was then able to get into emby from any pc on my network. BUT: HERE's where my problem differs: 1) my roku tv IS online. 2) it shows a valid IP address on the SAME network. 3) it was working fine for a period of time. (server hasn't changed) 4) I just got off the phone with Roku support. THey had me: reset tv power reset entire Roku verify network still same situation. SO, I still have no connectivity on my roku and I have no idea where to look now (Firewall on server is OFF can get to server/emby from any other place on the local net ideas?? thanks in advance Edited October 20, 2024 by markie
