Ladiesman0217 14 Posted October 13, 2024 Posted October 13, 2024 I'm going to be moving my local install of Emby to a Docker container on the same computer, and all of the media will be staying in the same location. My question is this... should I need to do anything other than take a backup and restore it to the new Emby instance running in the docker container? Is it really that simple? Thanks!
Luke 42078 Posted October 13, 2024 Posted October 13, 2024 Hi, yes it should be: Configuration Backup

Ladiesman0217 14 Posted October 14, 2024 Author Posted October 14, 2024 No I'm not ready to actually do it yet. Just information gathering for now. 1
Q-Droid 989 Posted October 14, 2024 Posted October 14, 2024 If you're doing this on the same host then backup/restore is not needed. The same configuration used for the bare-metal Emby will work for the container based Emby. The key is getting the UID, GID, GIDLIST and the bind volume mappings right. You might only want to backup the Emby data path as a precaution in case something doesn't map correctly then you can reset and try again. This would be an external backup, not using the plugin. Or as some might do copy the bare-metal Emby data to a different location for the container config. 1
Ladiesman0217 14 Posted May 3, 2025 Author Posted May 3, 2025 I know it's been a delay but I'm just now getting around to actually migrating this to Docker. My question is this... If I do a backup of my local Emby install and restore it to the new docker container hosted instance, my media library paths are going to be wrong. For example, my movies folder is E:\TV\Movies but my volume is /media/movies. Will I be able to edit these paths after I restore from backup or are all my Media Libraries going to be borked and I will need to re-create them all? thanks!

We plan to add a path edit feature in future updates but we don't have that yet. Thanks. 1
Ladiesman0217 14 Posted May 3, 2025 Author Posted May 3, 2025 (edited) I successfully got Emby moved over to docker/containers. Runs even faster in a container than with the local install! In regards to remapping the Media Libraries, you don't have to completely delete and recreate the libraries, you can just add the updated path as a new library source and then remove the old one. Once Emby finishes scanning you'lll be good to go! Thanks Luke for the help as always! Edited May 3, 2025 by Ladiesman0217 1
