geerfear 1 Posted October 10, 2024 Posted October 10, 2024 I'm assuming this is a fairly straightforward fix and just an instruction or step that is buried somewhere that I missed, but I haven't been able to turn anything up with search or browsing posts. I'm currently running Emby Server 4.7.14.0 on Synology (this is the newest version available on the Synology Package Center, though it appears that 4.8.10.0 is available if I were to manually update) with Kodi Companion 2.2.1.0. This serves three clients which I had initially configured identically and which had been working without issue for a year or more. Their current info is: Shield 2017 Kodi: 21.1 Emby Next Gen: 10.0.47 Emby Repo: 1.0.8 Shield Pro 2019: Kodi: 21.1 Emby Next Gen: 8.2.13 Emby Repo: 1.0.7 Chromecast with Google TV 4K Kodi: 21.1 Emby Next Gen: 10.0.47 Emby Repo: 1.0.7 All are set to auto-update, so I'm not sure why the 2019 Shield is still on an older version, but it is now the only one that works without issue. I first noticed the syncing issue on the 2017 Shield. On startup the Emby account logged in and displayed the welcome message, then the updating libraries message for my two libraries (Movies and TV) but did not actually sync any new content. I was still able to play the content that was previously synced without issue. I assumed there was a library issue, did a Repair Library with no success and then removed and readded the libraries, again with no success. Upon re-adding the libraries they are blank. I've tried clearing all Kodi cache and data, uninstalling Kodi, and re-adding the Emby For Kodi Next Gen multiple times without success. I'm always able to log into my Emby account just fine (as verified by both the welcome message and the Activity log on the Emby website) but when it tries to add library content the process is completed in 2-4 seconds, when historically I know it takes around 5-10 minutes to sync my library from scratch. I've tried manually changing the Emby for Kodi version from the settings back to version 8 to match the 2019 Shield, which doesn't resolve the issue. I also read another post here discussing installing the add-on as a Service add-on rather than a Video add-on as had been done historically. The most recent instructions I could find still say to add it as a video add-on, but I tried it as a service anyway, again without success. At the moment the 2019 Shield syncs and plays properly, the Chromecast plays existing content but doesn't sync, and the 2017 Shield does not sync and displays an empty library. Is there something obvious I'm missing? Has the installation procedure changed with the newer versions? Thanks for any help you can provide.
FrostByte 5392 Posted October 10, 2024 Posted October 10, 2024 FYI 10.x says in the notes that it supports Emby server 4.8 and above. Things have changed somewhat. quickmic has broken the addon out into 4 parts now. With current versions the service addon is now the prerequisite and has to be loaded before the audio, image, and video parts. quickmic I'm sure will be able to add more. 1

Correct, I assume that's the issue. Please update to 4.8.X and check if the issue still exists. btw, The Emby-Kodi-repo has changed and you must reinstall/update the repo addon from here: http://kodi.emby.tv/ Edited October 11, 2024 by quickmic
geerfear 1 Posted October 11, 2024 Author Posted October 11, 2024 Thanks for the info. I'll give that a shot tonight. So basically the procedure would be: - Update Emby to 4.8 manually - Install new kodi.emby.tv repo - Install Next Gen as a Service add-on - Install Next Gen as a Video add-on, Audio add-on, and Image add-on Is there a documented installation procedure for this new setup somewhere? The only ones I could find were all for the older version (like this one https://emby.media/support/articles/Emby-for-Kodi.html)
quickmic 1703 Posted October 11, 2024 Posted October 11, 2024 Simply install Next Gen as a Service add-on from repository, that's. Video add-on, Audio add-on, and Image add-on are optional if you use dynamic nodes (not synced content).
geerfear 1 Posted October 14, 2024 Author Posted October 14, 2024 Thanks again for the help. Just finished fully updating all three systems and they are all working as intended. Greatly appreciated. 1
