Real time monitoring not working

I have been fighting this for years.  We previously had done some troubleshooting here, but it never led to a resolution:

I have tried deleting the libraries and recreating, made sure real time monitoring is enabled, plus lots of other things I am forgetting right now.  My system is split up over 3 Synology NAS on the same network.  My main NAS runs Emby and media files are located on all 3.  I will attach the current log which, during this time frame, I have added TV shows as well as new episodes of existing shows without a library update occurring.  I can manually trigger a library update which works, but it doesn't work automatically at all.

Hi,

You probably need to adjust the number of inotify instances that Synology uses.  Please check out this tutorial.

It seems like that was part of what we went through a few years ago and I never got it to help.  I will go through these steps and try again.

I don't see any Inotify errors in this log.  The log from your other post had inotify errors which needed fixing first.

However, this log seems to indicate that Emby is watching several folders.  So, probably another issue.

At what time during this log did you copy something new to a watched folder?

I ran through the tutorial as described and rebooted the server.  I still have not seen an update run.

Did you copy something new to one of your watched folders after rebooting?  At what time in the log?  I'm not seeing it for some reason.

There were new movies added at 7:41 and 7:45, and new TV episodes added at 8:06.

Also, can you run these two commands in either Putty, or Terminal and tell us what it comes back with?

cat /proc/sys/fs/inotify/max_user_instances
cat /proc/sys/fs/inotify/max_user_watches

I believe this log starts at 10:22 and ends at 12:19 though.  If it errors, that's it.  The new file flag is no longer set.

Nm, I see those times in your OP.

2024-10-10 07:41:43.398 Info LibraryMonitor: 4K Movies (/volume1/Skynet/Movies/4K Movies) will be refreshed.

Okay, that confirms what you did worked.  I don't believe the issue is Inotify any longer and you're no longer getting Inotify errors.

@Carlodo you see anything else in the log which may indicate why RTM is still not working.

Probably need to enable debug logging for more info.  And what was added?

As it is adding this

I don't see either of these in the log.

Can you check the permissions on the files/folders you added?
It's possible Emby Server doesn't have access to them.

Carlo

Could you direct me as to what would be appropriate permission settings and how to check those?  FYI, both of the folders in this test are on a different NAS then the one running Emby Server.

Also, if I manually run a library update it does update from all of these folders correctly.

Is the media stored on the NAS?

Yes, I have media stored on all 3 NAS.  Emby runs on Skynet.

I had not.  Thank you.  I went through the instructions and found that both of my secondary NAS were missing the emby system internal user.  I installed Emby on those NAS which created the user.  I double-checked that all of my media folders now give read and write access to that user.  I added another TV show at 1:30 to test but it has not updated yet.
