Emby video stuttering, but none when using external players

Every now and then, watching TV shows, the video freeze and/or stutter while sound go on, anywhere from 1 to a few seconds.

Seem to be happening more and more recently.

Emby stats for nerd defines it as dropped frames. The caption also states Direct Play in use (which I think is good as a lesser workload for host pc).

Whenever this happens, I make it a point eliminate a "my bad file" by playing it with an external player. My #2 go to is MPC Home Cinema (I Know, its deprecated but still an unsung hero).

Oh, VLC agrees with MPC. File plays flawlessly. So its not the file itself, and its not the hardware either, identical wether on Emby or file explorer/external player.

(I'd rather PM my log)

Thanks.

Might be the devices internal player not fully supporting the formats being used in the video.
Displaying things like pass-through or setting to down mix to stereo might help and be further proof of this.

Had that problem with Kodi at one point.

Where do I find a pass-through setting in Emby ?

You had me thinking about file formats you evoked, and to that I might add it could also be codec thing.

so I re-watched the same episode earlier this morning and this time, it all wen thru with zero glitch, all good. 🤔

Another intermittent problem to figure out, but the house isn't out in flames.

Where pass-through is, is actually a good question.
I only know of them being available in Emby for Android TV (under playback settings) and in Kodi somewhere (can't remember where, sorry).

It is not implemented anywhere else, and the devs are unlikely to change that.

Here, it direct plays all .MP4, but does "converting to compatible container" most .MKV, most of the time*.

*In my original post, the capture shows .mkv direct play, but today, that same exact file is now being converted/transcoded. ???

Direct Play is still through the server.  I think what's being referred to in Android TV is playback directly from the file system to the client.  There is no way to force transcoding or direct play explicitly - Emby is relying on knowledge of the client's capabilities and the various max bandwidth settings.

Hi.  Can you try searching for our standard android app (Just "Emby" on Amazon and "Emby for Android on Google) on the same device's app store and see how that compares?

Thanks.
