Statick 15 Posted October 6, 2024 Posted October 6, 2024 (edited) hiya, I've got some shows encoded with OPUS 7.1 audio I've just found that these aren't playing correctly on my LG TV - there is no audio coming through whatsoever presumably my TV can't play this format but emby is not transcoding them, the dashboard is showing direct play for video and audio. is there some way to override this? I'd rather not re-encode 60 episodes worth of audio if I can avoid it! Edited October 6, 2024 by Statick

Sometime forcing transcoding works depending on whether the codec is supported or not in the hls stream. But this topic suggest it will be convert if you force transcoding ie set playback quality to a lower bitrate than media. Devs many need TV Model number also. Mod may need to move this to LG section so correct dev sees this also.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted October 6, 2024 Posted October 6, 2024 One question do you know which webos version you have? As it looks like they tried to limit this a while ago as I still don't see where it was officially supported.
SamES 1056 Posted October 7, 2024 Posted October 7, 2024 The LG developer docs haven't traditionally been overly reliable. For the most part, we rely on the video/audio elements confirming codec support, but that has not always been accurate in older models. We know it's wrong on models prior to 2018, so we disable OPUS on those. It looks like we should also exclude 2019 as well. The specs don't list OPUS support until 2024, but I don't think that's right either. If we limited playback to only what's in the docs then we'd have to disable a lot of formats that we know work fine. https://webostv.developer.lge.com/develop/specifications/video-audio-240
