Workstation 4 Posted October 5, 2024 Posted October 5, 2024 (edited) Hello everyone, I have the problem that after updating the library my NFO is changed. I have set my data so that I only have 1 genre per movie, but when I update the library, this is overwritten. Is this a bug or have I set it wrong? Also, I noticed that all my movies have a “Season.nfo” even though the movies were all recognized correctly. Edited October 5, 2024 by Workstation
Neminem 1518 Posted October 5, 2024 Posted October 5, 2024 You have this activated. That will alter your nfo files, when you update metadata. 1
Workstation 4 Posted October 5, 2024 Author Posted October 5, 2024 Ah ok, I thought that Is for new Movies.
Neminem 1518 Posted October 5, 2024 Posted October 5, 2024 Its for both new and old movies. If you have this option enabled. Then its will create nfo for new movies. And update nfo if your ask emby to refresh metadata.
Workstation 4 Posted October 5, 2024 Author Posted October 5, 2024 Yes, but Emby changed the exist nfo. I only would like to create a new nfo and not to change the exist. What do I have to to to set this up?
Neminem 1518 Posted October 5, 2024 Posted October 5, 2024 (edited) You can't do that with Emby, as fare as I know. If save to Metadata Savers "nfo" i enabled it will save changes. You would need to make the nfo files in another program, that supports emby. And disable emby Metadata Savers "nfo" But you could set nfo files to read only, but that would give you errors in your logs, that would fill up your log drive. Edited October 5, 2024 by Neminem 2
Workstation 4 Posted October 6, 2024 Author Posted October 6, 2024 I still don't understand it exactly. if I deactivate it, the images are loaded, but not my created nfo from TinyMediamanager.

Workstation 4 Posted October 7, 2024 Author Posted October 7, 2024 I have edited my movies with TinyMediamanager and would like to use them in Emby. Emby loads them without any problems, but the next time I add a new movie, Emby scans and finds the movie, but overwrites all other NFO's in the media library.

Sorry but do you have specific examples as Emby will ready existing data yes but yes has a specific format it is looking for and working with so may write that back to nfo file as no metadata managers are 100% the same.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted October 7, 2024 Posted October 7, 2024 Just now, Neminem said: Disable this option and try again. Yes this is the best option as Emby will just read what you have and posibly add what it want directly to the database. I do this as I still use xml metadata from MCM. 1
Luke 42077 Posted October 7, 2024 Posted October 7, 2024 Also keep in mind that enabling nfo reading but not nfo saving can lead to other quirks, such as changes made in Emby getting lost later because they're not written anywhere. I would generally suggest keeping those two values the same. 1
Happy2Play 9780 Posted October 7, 2024 Posted October 7, 2024 And with everything disabled what would you like Emby to do as it can not read any existing metadata or get any metadata?
Workstation 4 Posted October 7, 2024 Author Posted October 7, 2024 Sorry, then I misunderstood. With the setting he found the movie and the pictures, but no genre, for example. Now I've set it that way and it looks like everything worked. It has recognized all the data from TinyMediamanager and so far has not destroyed my database. 1
Luke 42077 Posted October 7, 2024 Posted October 7, 2024 So you enabled reading but not saving. That's fine. Just keep in mind what i said earlier. 1
Workstation 4 Posted October 8, 2024 Author Posted October 8, 2024 (edited) Now my entire media library is gone again overnight even though I haven't changed anything. It was the same yesterday. The Same also like the picture Is on Mac and Apple TV. Something is going wrong here. There must be a way to just scan my library and not change anything. This is the simplest function that every other programme can do. But it would also be fine if Emby scanned everything, but then kept my genre. I only ever use 1 genre per film. I don't have this problem with series. Edited October 8, 2024 by Workstation

But changing library options will not affect previously imported items so the real question becomes what exactly are you doing? Unless your library locations are going offline to Emby and Emby is purging them do to them reporting they are not present. But one question would be do they still appear in Library setup and just not on Home screen?
Workstation 4 Posted October 8, 2024 Author Posted October 8, 2024 Are there several protocols? Which one is the right one? Should I send it by message?
Luke 42077 Posted October 8, 2024 Posted October 8, 2024 Hi, please attach the emby server log from when the problem occurred: How to Report a Problem Thanks.

They are posted in the PM you were added to. As it looks like media is removed daily in the two rollover logs posted there.
Workstation 4 Posted October 12, 2024 Author Posted October 12, 2024 Maybe I have found the problem why my database is deleted every night. I have a provider who regularly distributes new IP addresses. Quite normal in Germany. For this problem I have a DDNS server at Strato, which recognizes this and communicates it to my Synology. Emby does not seem to be able to cope with this. If I deactivate remote access in Emby, it works so far. Before I switched to Emby, I also had Plex and Infuse via external access. None of the programs ever had this behavior. I've had my Synology set up this way for years and no application has ever had problems with it, only Emby. Could this be the cause? Can you help me with this problem? I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for the great support. Even in the beta for the Apple TV, all issues are addressed immediately. I have really come to love Emby and it is so much more flexible than the other programs.
Luke 42077 Posted October 12, 2024 Posted October 12, 2024 Hi, no I don’t think that’s related. Can you try to catch it in the act when it’s happening? It’s likely happening because those files appear to Emby server as if they’re not there anymore. Can you check this at the same time that it happens?
Workstation 4 Posted October 12, 2024 Author Posted October 12, 2024 (edited) I've checked all the logs, but it doesn't happen at exactly the same Time. Edited October 12, 2024 by Workstation
