Hello my name is Rich

i have a Emby media server on a Windows 10 pc wired straight to router which all worked before for users remotely connecting to Emby using upnp on router with Now Broadband but i have now changed ISP & I am with Fibrus now & there router is the Eero 6 + & has no upnp, so i know i will have to do some kind of port forwarding but i am completely dense when it comes to networks & port forwarding which i have had to do before a very very very long time ago, i know it took ages to figure that out back then & once again i have tried doing this myself but has not worked as i expected.

I am going to revert all my changes & hope for some good advise from here

Hi,

Check out this page for how to setup port forwarding on your router.

Checkout the section "External Connections" on this page

https://emby.media/support/articles/Connectivity.html?q=port

Let us know if you need additional information.

I got to this part

If you have more than one router, eg an ISP provided router and also your own router, then that would lead to a Double NAT which would lead to failure to reach the server externally. In such cases, it is recommended that one router, e.g. the ISP router, is configured to run in Modem/Bridge mode. If they both need to be running as routers, the configuration would be more complex, needing to cascade the port forward for the public port from the first router to the second and have the actual required port forward on the 2nd router. Also the 2nd router would need to have its local IP Address as a DHCP reservation on the first router.

My new ISP gave me 2 routers both Eero 6 + but i do not have the other one plugged in, would this be my problem & if so as i don't need the other router would there be a way to make the main router just a router & not have to this bridge set up & everything else it says to do above

I doubt you got two routers.  One of them is likely configured as WIFI extender.

If that's the case the paragraph i mentioned about double-nat does not apply to me ,how do you tell if its a router or an extender as they both look the same & are both eero 6 +

Internal/local NAT, double or even triple NAT can be setup to work by port forwarding from router to router. As long as a port is forwarded to the next router it can be setup and used, but usually not ideal.

CG-NAT (Carrier Grade NAT) or NAT done by your ISP is what stops inbound traffic as your external IP isn't directly routable from the public internet. That's when you have to see if the ISP can give you a static IP or take you off CG-NAT. Typically, business internet isn't behind a CG-NAT and often come with a static IP.

If you're stuck behind a CG-NAT there are a few different ways around it, using a 3rd party service.

Thanks for answering

How do i know if I'm stuck behind CG-NAT & how do you know " NAT done by your ISP is what stops inbound traffic " curious just   , you also mentioned business internet but i have home internet why & do i call my ISP to find out if I'm stuck behind CG-NAT

Sorry for asking so many questions but when it comes to network problems it just seems like every other word is a new one which i don't know

Boggles me mind

Rich

I was talking to Fibrus & it seems i am & i would have to pay £5 FOR A STATIC IP address, so was wondering is there any other way around this for cheaper?

Check the section "Verify Public IP and Port".

Tbh never used it, have always used a static IP with my own domain.

But hear other users like it.

Hi,

Save yourself the headaches of trying to make this work as Tailscale isn't going to work with a lot of devices. Pay the £5 FOR A STATIC IP address and be happy that's all they charge. :)

I think your right because i have been checking all the other ISP'S in my area & it would still be cheaper with the extra £5
