Matty5700 0 Posted October 2, 2024 Posted October 2, 2024 I'm new to Emby, i've run Plex for 10+ years, generally I quite like Plex and have paid lifetime license. I've also purchased a lifetime license for Emby. I think Emby server is awesome, much better than Plex, especially the plugins. I got it running as an LXC on Proxmox, with GPU passthrough setup very quickly. It just works, and works well. The Emby apps on devices such as iPads, Android phones all work well, very similar to Plex. No issues here either. But the way Emby NG integrates into Kodi (ive purchased a Vero V, and use an RP4B) just isnt working for me, I cannot get it to operate smoothly, like the apps. I dont appear to understand how this is designed to operate as I cannot get multi user working, for instance on the ipad my 8yo Daughter has access to a different set of libraries, as we really dont want he to be able to watch Wolf of Wall street for example. I have my libraries on the server sorted into a few categories, Emby on Kodi just dumps all movies into movies, no sorting. I am running the Estuary skin, so its closer to how it should look. Is there any way to get Emby on Kodi to function like every other app on end user devices does ? PS. I tried Emby distro on the RP4B, its probably in alpha stage, not even close to working well unfortunately.
quickmic 1703 Posted October 2, 2024 Posted October 2, 2024 (edited) I've a very similar setup as you. Proxmox, LXC -Emby and multiple Vero V and raspi's. I think I got a rough idea what you are trying to achieve. Quote for instance on the ipad my 8yo Daughter has access to a different set of libraries, as we really dont want he to be able to watch Wolf of Wall street for example. This sounds you have multiple user accounts on Emby server. On Kodi you must do the same. Kodi has the option to use profiles, and you must create two profiles as well e.g. parents and kids on Kodi. Each Kodi profile is completely independent from each other. So the next step would be, login with Kodi's parent profile and connect the plugin with the parent account credentials to Emby server. Sync libraries etc. Same for the Kodi profile. Quote I have my libraries on the server sorted into a few categories, Emby on Kodi just dumps all movies into movies, no sorting. I assume you have multiple libraries on Emby server including the same kind of content. e.g. Movies and Documentaries both have "movie" libraries on Emby server. Kodi has no (Emby library) abstraction out of the box (default skin). Kodi uses tags for that and the standard (Estuary) skin/node keeps it simple as possible. The default skin homescreen/main nodes are not even configurable. Therefore you need a custom skin. If you like the Estuary design (as I do), install the estuary mod v2 from Kodinerds. It looks identical like Estuary, but fully customizable. From here you can define new homescreen nodes and assign Emby libraries to this new nodes. There is a learning curve, but in the end it's worth it. Edited October 2, 2024 by quickmic
