Only 4 collections created

Hi, Coming back to Emby for a second round, and so far so good. Although this is not going to kill me, but I noticed that of all my movies only 4 collections were made...and I have a lot of other series: star wars, terminator, Alein, Lord of the Rings, that should be identified as collections...but they are not. I tried a second scan and still nothing....not sure why its missing them.

But overall I LOVE the performance...Plex has become some sort of resource hog and it was constantly buffering....pretty much gave up...I tossed in Emby ...dropped the app on 4 of my TV and it streamed them all with 0 buffering..all at 4k atmos....got to say I am a  happy camper so far.

****I just noticed something,  It made a collection for Back to the future, but only for 1 and 3...for some reason it left out 2...although 2 is in my movies list and it did create meta data

Thanks

If you are trying to use "Automatic" collections then it is somehow screwing up. I NEVER use automatic collections I just create the collections I need manually. I have manual collections only and I have over 300 of them. I do not, however, have cross type collections (TV and Movies in the same collections) as I have found those to be unwieldly. I think they will work fine now but I don't need them as when I want to watch a movie I watch a movie and if I want to watch a TV show I watch that and never the twain do meet.

First question will be do you write nfo files with media?

Then what metadata providers do you have enabled?

In the end it is about item metadata.  If the items metadata does not have the <set> node it will not be added to a collection or be able to create a collection.

Hi Happy2Play,

Sorry for the delay..busy week.

To answer, yes set to NFO for metadata readers, I have all metadata downloaders enabled. The saved NFO was not checked....After I checked I refreshed metadata...no change...

Can you provide NFO for one of the movies that should've been included in some collection but it is not?

Also, can you share a screenshot of library settings where enabled Metadata downloaders and Import collection information option are visible?

Hi @GrimReaper, Pardon my ignorance, Im used to plex storing the medata in the local folder of the movie...it seems emby stores them in the \AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\programdata\metadata\library ? but all I see are obscure files..I tried looking at the identify for the movie but did not see anything that pointed to me what the metadata file was called.

I understood that as you having checked/enabled "NFO Saver" (if you did, NFO would've been saved in media folder) - guess need to clarify do you or do you not have "NFO Saver" enabled?

Yes this should have written nfo files with media assume you did a Refresh and just a library scan.  If there were not written then I would assume errors in the server log stating unable to save usually do to permissions.

I think this is where I do that......at least thats what I saw...sorry if I got it wrong

OK, This is the strange thing...I see NFO files for BTTTF 1 and 3....but none for 2..HOWEVER,  BTTF 2 does show movie info in Emby......So this would explain why the collections does not pull it...but  where is it storing the NFO information for the title?....lol

It look like titles with NFO in the folders were placed into collections automatically....So I am guessing something I have set wrong or something  for other titeles not placing NFO files?

If you did not have nfo saver enabled metadata is only written in the database.  So the drawbacks of if anything were to happen to the database you loose everything, and if you have written nfo files it is easy to rebuild all existing/customized metadata.

Sounds like you need to refresh the one without nfo file again and if no written provide server log as it would suggest a issue with said folder usually comes back to random permissions at folder level.

@Happy2PlayI tried that and nothing ever writes to the folder now....When I installed Emby everything just ran on its own in default...so not sure if there is something i need to do to clear the DB so it pulls Metadata into the folders?...I tried clear metadata but that did not seem to work....are my setting correct in the SS I sent above?

Spoiler

And does the server log show anything for a specific example?

Only issue with the screenshot is you do not have the option to Import Collection data from metadata downloader enabled so Emby will not get the info.

@Happy2PlayWhat I meant is..that the folders never populate NFO...even after the changes...I still can write to folders manually, and movie infos are populating..even new movies that I toss in.  I did not select the Import collection because I thought it was going to retain the old Plex nfo files so I wanted to make sure it went in fresh..ill check that right now and try again. Thanks for the patience as I sort this all out

Would need to see a plex nfo file as Emby requires the file to have the <set> node to be able to create a collection for the item per the minimum count option so 2 or more files need the <set> node to make a Collection.

Ok..my thought is (possibly) the old NFO files from plex are being picked up from emby....emby I gather does not touch those files (but does use them to place movie info in the movie dashboard?) , even if I do a clear metadata and try to have it pull again. That being said will the current settings above will emby crate and place NFO files into the movie folders and collections should pick them up?

Per your displayed settings Emby should be reading and writing but need server logs showing refresh of specific items not working as it really sounds like a permissions issue.  Or the option has been enable and Emby has not refreshed the item yet.

Deleting an nfo does not clear out metadata as it is already in the database.  You have to move media out of library and do a full scan to remove from db.  Unless you are maybe ReIdentifing media or Removing Identification per item.

Not exactly as you do not have Import Collection data from metadata downloader so Emby can only rely on existing metadata and will not get the info from provider.

Sorry for not getting back sooner...Milton sorta made other things a priority for a while here...however I have noticed that all of a sudden the server has started making new collections on its own....so I gather its working...I even had to delete some collections I did not like it making..like the Thor and Ant Man collections...

If you want control over your connections then turn off the automatic collection creation. For me the automatic creation of collections creates much more garbage collections and too many of them. For example the last time i tested it (about 3 years ago) the automatic creation function created three separate Godzilla collections when it really makes no sense to have three unless you are one of the few that care more about "who made the movies" than about what they have for content. I have ONE Godzilla collection and I have every "Godzilla" movie from "Gojira" to "Godzilla vs. Kong" that i have found. But i have zero problem finding which one i want to watch. I simply do not understand the need for having several separate collections for mostly the same content.
