Hi, just wondering, is there a reason development has pretty much stopped? The gap between emby and it's main competitor is a chasm at the moment, I am talking things like the easy pin link login, the actors overview (emby only shows what's on the server whereas the competitor shows the entirety of their resume as it was) the massive one is notifications, the notifications on the main competitor are significantly better, the only thing going forward is the fact that emby doesn't need an internet connection to work, am I expecting to much?

Hello Lockyuk,

Emby development is always ongoing. Emby just released a new server version 4 days ago. Version 4.8.9.0. If you run the beta version, there is even a newer version than that.
Emby does support PIN login but you have to enable it for the user properly.

I'm not sure what you are referring to about the actor's overview unless it's the manner in how you are running your server.  By this I mean that the actor overview is pulled the first time the information is viewed.  If your server is offline the information won't be able to download to your system.  However, any actor information that has been downloaded previously will be available as it's already been downloaded.  Part of the reason for doing this is that Emby can/will display a full cast list for any shows/movies vs just the primary cast list as the other system you are referring to does.  This allows Emby to find many more shows/movies an actor has been involved with when doing searches for example.  With so much more potential cast information to pull down for a movie/show it could cripple the backend servers pulling this information needlessly when new media is added wasting resources (server, bandwidth, time) that may never be used.  By downloading on demand when actually viewed it makes much better uses of these resources and is "greener" so to speak.

Can you elaborate on what you are referring to about notifications? ie Display Console, Windows popup notifications, Webhooks, etc.  This could mean a few different things, so I want to make sure we are referring to the same thing.

What I say pin login, I should clarify that I am referring to connecting to the server Https://xxxx.tv/ink

Regarding the actor overview, so if I want to see what else the actor is in, I can't as it only shows what they are in that's on my server and isn't useful for finding new TV shows if I like a particular actor as got to go to Google etc to figure out who it is.

Notifications for things such as new media added to a library, the main rival has very rich notifications built into the app without the need for separate plugins, none of the plugins are close to the same sort of quality of push notification sent by the rival even including images etc

Yes the gap between Emby and all its competitors is HUGE. None of the pretenders to the throne are even close. Changes happen all the time. They are not always exactly what I want but they seem, mostly, to make the general user community very happy. 

I sometimes wish Emby worked faster but I do not want them rushing, like Plex often does, and screwing up the great core of code they have in place.

In fairness that actor overview is a thing because that competitor has the ability for you to watch content not on your server. You should be really using jellyseer/overseer anyways for this task.

Did you notice the links to outside websites on every Actor's page?
