Sent the other day, thank you again for your help.

Thanks. I probably should have also asked for Emby screenshots before and after (sorry). Can you do this again? I need to see examples of what is moving. Thanks.

So unfortunately, because I am so type A, as soon as it happens (the random reordering) i manually put it back, but hopefully this gives you an idea....

All of those NFL channels I have manually placed at the bottom of the list...when the channel names change, and i come back in to this view (or the guide), the NFL channels are randomly inserted in the existing channel lineup throughout, there is no rhyme or reason, so the arrows represent where the NFL channels get re-ordered, although not exactly because each week its different, and they get placed randomly throughout the channel list....there has never been a case where one of the NFL channels stayed at the bottom of the list...the second screenshot shows how I place the NFL channels at the bottom of the list each week after the randomization occurs

This is probably the issue right here:

#EXTINF:-1 tvg-id="" tvg-name="NFL | 02 " tvg-logo="http://apk.eternaltv.net/icons/nfl-logo.jpg" group-title="NFL",NFL | 02

Notice the empty tvg-id. Without that value, how does the server know it's the same channel as before?

So what's happening is, the channel is not being reordered, but rather, they are being removed entirely from your server database and then being added back again with a new name.

Without having any id present, the name becomes the identifier. So to get this resolved, you need to make sure whatever is generating your m3u is filling in those id values.

Ok.  That’s fair. But why does it insert it randomly in the list?

I don’t create the m3u, the service does.

Given there is no tvg-id anymore for the nfl channels what do you recommend?

It's not random, it's just that you've got some channels with tvg-id values that you may have customized, and these values are being remembered.

Then mixed in with that, you've got other channels that are constantly coming in and out based on content.

If you can't change the m3u then you probably just have to live with the channel order that they are giving you.

Well actually every channel other than nfl and the 24/7 have tvg-ids, so why would channels without be randomly placed in a list of channels with?  I just figured those without would be placed at the beginning or end.

the only solution is to manually create an m3u and then not have the info on the games.

Sorry to ask again, but given that other channels have a TVGID, and I've set their order, why does emby randomly place the channels with no TVBID within a list of channels that do have TBGIDs?

Hi,

See the last response from Luke above which already answers this question.

I am not trying to be difficult at all but respectfully it doesn’t.  If all the channels except the NFL and 24/7 channels have tvgids what is the logic in the code that when a new channel is added, which essentially is what you guys are saying happens when the nfl channels get renamed every week, why is emby randomly inserting them in between channels with tvgids?   I could understand emby sorting the new channels by tvgid, or some other logic but I’m trying to understand what the logic is so I can account for it.

He did answer, you just missed/overlooked it.

Dont flame me if I interpretted this wrongly but this is how I read thie information in this thread....

The tvgid is what sorts the list, So this means that the Channel Name effectively becomes a tvgid to fill in the blank tvg-id=""
So whatever your sort settings are and whatever the channel name is , this should be the reason it appears where it does.

Not going to flame you but respectfully again, one would think that if there was a bunch of channels with no tvgid those channels wouldn’t be randomly inserted into a list that does. Specially given I’ve manually sorted them.  A null value as you suggest would either be sorted at the beginning or end of the list.   Not separated and randomly inserted

if the answer is “it is what it is” then that’s fine, but there has been no logic given as to why the channels with tvgids are just randomly inserted into a list that has them.

By any chance does your provider give you NFL channels for each team as well as individual games that will be added and removed each weak?

For example, some providers will give you an NFL Giants, NFL Bengals, NFL Eagles, NFL Dolphins.  These team channels typically never change which would allow you to edit the metadata to your liking and it would stay that way since the channel isn't constantly removed/added each week.

Yes they do, and that is my backup plan, although there is no EPG data for those channels that I can find, so there will be no data there.  that said, I have a secondary backup plan as well.

Again for clarity, I appreciate all the feedback here.  I think its clear I'm on my own to figure this out, which is fine.  Given that I know the tvg-id appears to be the delineating factor, i'll just have to take that into account.

Hi, please let us know if you find anything. Thanks !

Find what?  Would be great to understand menus behavior.

I mean let us know if you find a better way of managing your m3u that doesn’t have any tvg ids. Thanks.

I'm experiencing the same thing and its a little frustrating. In my example a handful of channels change each week for the games that are going to be played that week.
When the list updates Emby decides to put these 'new' channels sporadically through the live tv list.
Maybe if we could have a setting to lock the list and anything new gets added to the end of the live tv channel list.?
As i use the channel list to arrange my tv channels, not the m3u.

Would be great but you’ve seen the response here.   Solution was to just use team channels in my case.
