Jimz011 0 Posted September 23, 2024 Posted September 23, 2024 I have recently switched from Plex to Emby. I love the features of Emby and how much better it handles Live TV and STRM files. The only issue I really have is with not having a real MFA option (but that is for another topic) and the fact that I can't scrub/seek audio when using Android Auto or when Casting to a Google Device. It works fine on the apps themselves, but when I play audio on Android Auto I can only scrub/seek through some songs, but most of the songs when seeking it will simply restart the song. This makes livesets from more than an hour unbearable to listen to as I can't skip ahead and it will simply restart from the beginning. It gets even worse as it will not continue playing where it left off once you stop the car and restart it later. It will simply start the song over again (imagine a trip where we had to stop every 2 minutes :P). I said Android Auto, but it is also true when casting audio to a Google Home speaker. I will have to mention that it is not with all songs, but most of them that don't work are FLAC files. I'll remind you that it works fine on the Android app itself. I have also tried using a third party app like Symfonium, now it does make it better (as it supports some form of caching), but it still isn't what I was used to from PlexAmp. Emby has now much more features for me on the video side, but less on the music side. I hope someone can help me to tweak the settings so that this isn't a problem anymore.
Jimz011 0 Posted September 23, 2024 Author Posted September 23, 2024 After playing for 2 days, I think I have found a solution by using Symfonium and in the transcoder settings instead of having it play the original quality, convert audio to 320kbit/s and it no longer wants to restart, I can now finally scrub and seek while using AA and Cast. I know I lose quality on this, but those speakers aren't that high fidelity anyways. If anyone ever encounters this, then I hope this post helps you!
Jimz011 0 Posted September 24, 2024 Author Posted September 24, 2024 A day ahead and it seems I was too early in my joy. The above works superb for content that is actually higher quality than 320kbit, but now it is the other way around. Music that is 192kbit can no longer be scrubbed/seeked. The only thing I found working 100% is setting it to the lowest quality audio I have in my library to transcode (but that makes my higher quality music sound aweful). Seems like I will be needing a different solution (or going back to Plex) just for music as the settings for music playback are virtually non-existent in Emby.
Luke 42077 Posted September 25, 2024 Posted September 25, 2024 @Jimz011 Hi there, let's look at an example. Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. Thanks!
