GoldenSpider 12 Posted September 22, 2024 Posted September 22, 2024 Ive been noticing an issue after i've renamed and transferred my library to a new storage medium, that Emby tends to pull the wrong metadata when you sort and name shows with, "name, the" ike "Boys, the" for the prime show The Boys, or "Bear, The" for the FX Show The Bear. Is there some kind of toggle I'm missing for emby to recognize this format and pull the correct metadata? I find it odd if there isn't as this is an extremely common way to sort things that start with "the" and I suppose that would be a feature request if it doesn't have a toggle to support this again, extremely common naming format
pwhodges 2012 Posted September 22, 2024 Posted September 22, 2024 Emby will discard the article when sorting (so producing the order you expect), but display it in it's normal place. Of course, the OS won't sort the folders/files as you want - just Emby. Your problem is that if you juggle the words in the name, then the metadata providers are liable not to recognise them as you expect (this is not fundamentally an Emby problem). tl/dr - Don't reformat show/movie names, and Emby will do what you want. Nothing wrong with that format, I use it myself. One thing you could benefit from would be to add the year to the folder name, eg. Bear, The (2022) Or for the best accuracy, you could append the tvdbid, eg. Bear, The (2022) [tvdbid=403294] However, just adding the year alone seems to work just fine for me. For reference: TV Naming 1 1
GoldenSpider 12 Posted September 23, 2024 Author Posted September 23, 2024 Adding the year may solve the problems. Yes but the wrong metadata that is being pulled is quite odd. I mentioned the boys and the bear specifically as those are the two I’ve had issues with so far. The boys somehow instead pulled the trailer park boys the animated series. And the bear pulled up “the miraculous teddy bear” or something like that
GrimReaper 4739 Posted September 23, 2024 Posted September 23, 2024 That is completely up to the providers and the results/hits they return - both "Boys" and "Bear' are such broad terms, without at least a (Year) in the folder name so it'd be included in the query to narrow it down (or providerId to pinpoint it) as @seanbuffalready advised above, you're inevitably bound to face more issues in the future.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted September 23, 2024 Posted September 23, 2024 Would need to see the server log for the exact query to provider but since they really don't have exact matching and your request can sometimes not be on the first page of returned results Emby does get it wrong when choosing on a large list of results. As mentioned, there is no way to get it wrong with providerid in title. But most of the time adding year usually resolves most issue.
