I tried to add Genres in Home videos & photos, Music Videos, and TV shows, but none of them triggers the "more like this" suggestion. How can I enable it or what condition is needed? Thanks.

HI there, can you please provide a specific example of what you added? Thanks.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I created a Home videos & photos library and want to have "more like this" suggestion shown when I click a video. I remember somehow I saw this feature before, and I saw other posts say "more like this" depends on the Genres field. Therefore I added a Genre called "Family" to 5 videos. When I open a video detail page I expect there will be suggestions of other similar videos with "Family" genre shown up, but don't know why it does not work.

CM,

I would guess that resorting "more like this" collection happens after some time delay, perhaps a couple days.  I didn't write the code.  You can try Admin / Dashboard / Library / Scan Library Files (button upper right).  Also, you may need more use of the Family Genre to have much of effect. You would need to be on the media page that is listed as Family in order to find any other Family genre films in the 'More like this' list.

Normally for commercial movies, there is an official 'Family' genre that is picked up automatically for G and PG rated films only.

Hope that helps.

Dumb question.

Is it not collected from watch history + genre + etc.

Thanks. Still couldn't get the list work yet. Continue to try. Actually I also want to add custom genre.

? So you can see the suggestion list? Which type of library are you using? I cannot see the list.

CM,

Aha, that's different.  Not seeing the list at all.  This may have to do with your Home video and Photos type of library.  Since these types of media have no references online from any dbase source, there may not be a 'Suggestions' or 'More like this' section at all.  I have not tried setting up such a library.  I am guessing that adding in genres when you are in a Home video or Photos library only creates a genre reference.  Click on genre and your choices should be available.  I think there is no code for these types of media libraries to make any suggestions.

Library types: Movies and TV Shows create suggestions and 'More like this' on my server:
1 ) My Media / Click on a thumbnail for movies, TV shows, / choose Suggestions Tab
2 ) Open any media detail page and scroll down to find 'More like this'

Wouldn't it produce completely unrelated items in 99% of cases as these won't have genres or directors...?

Thank you very much. I have tested using Movie and now is working.

Understood, thanks. I think it is useful because I have some videos from youtube or streaming and these are not movies and don't have online db.

I am trying to add custom genres to the videos so that when I recap the video it can suggest related videos to me.

I understand but most people would not do that so this row would have nothing to compare to and just end up showing a random list of other items.

Internally there is a minimum similarity score that gets calculated. I don’t anticipate this being an issue.
