cavecanem234 1 Posted September 22, 2024 Posted September 22, 2024 I have some converted blu-ray files in AV1 and Opus surround sound on my Emby server, they play fine on my PC, through the web app or on a Samsung smart TV, however when trying to use the app on my LG smart TV the audio tries to play, but ends up sounding corrupted and unintelligible. Forcing Emby to transcode by setting a lower resolution or bitrate makes it transcode to AC3 after which it works fine. Stereo Opus files seem to work fine, it is just the surround sound ones that the LG app doesn't seem to like. Obviously forcing it to transcode both audio and video to a lower resolution isn't great, so would ideally either fix the issue or just find a way to force it to transcode Opus for the LG app?
visproduction 315 Posted September 22, 2024 Posted September 22, 2024 Cave, Post from 2 years ago complains that LG TV's do not support Opus. Has that been fixed? How old is your TV? Have you tried to update the LG firmware? https://www.reddit.com/r/webos/comments/x5m4c6/lg_tvs_with_no_opus_audio_support/
cavecanem234 1 Posted September 22, 2024 Author Posted September 22, 2024 (edited) Hi, the TV is the LG 43UP78006lb https://www.lg.com/uk/tvs-soundbars/smart-tvs/43up78006lb It is from 2021 and is running the most recent available WebOS version (03.41.00) and have checked and there are no emby app updates available. (1.0.44) My problem is that Emby seems to *think* it supports all Opus formats and tries to play it when it really just needs to be transcoded to AC3 or AAC or something. Stereo Opus works fine Surround Opus turns into an unintelligible mess, though does technically 'play' and doesn't give any errors. The same video but forced to transcode by changing quality settings (whereupon it seems to pick h264 and surround ac3) works fine. If there's a way I can force it to always transcode just the audio in the LG app I'd be fine with that, my server is not particurally strong but audio transcoding is no problem. Can you please post the server and ffmpeg log files for the test where you forced it to transcode?
cavecanem234 1 Posted September 22, 2024 Author Posted September 22, 2024 Where are these log files stored? Sorry just not really looked for them in emby before. The server is an app on a truenas box
