Buffering Problems when Playing high bitrate 4K remote

You only get to see those subtitle options after installing the Diagnostics plugin.  I guess they're still considered experimental (even after a couple of years).

I didn't look at the logs - sorry it was a late reply from me.

The Emby support tooling is suggesting ffmpeg problems and/or tonemapping problems -

1. Ensure you are using the latest beta incl the ffmpeg.

2. Use the latest drivers from Intel for the UHD 770

3. Ensure you have transcoding set to throttle. (and it's a fast ssd/nvme - which I assume it is)

4. If that still fails - then they will likely need a small sample of the file to test.

I don't personally have any issues transcoding/tonemapping 4K remux's remotely - never tried to a Shield, but that should not make any difference - you will at that point - only be sending SDR (tonemapped from HDR/DV) and AC3 Audio (converted from HD Audio) - unless it's direct playing.

Not to hijack this thread but is this a server plugin or an external too that you're using to view the log files. Looks very useful.

It's an external tool which integrates with a browser.  Access to it is controlled.

Hi,

I had similar problems, after several attempts I gave up transcoding on the fly for remote users. For about a year now, I have been converting each added 4K movie with a higher bitrate (over 15mbps) to an 8mbps version, usually in 1080p, EAC3. Since then, I haven't had any problems with remote playback, the user simply selects the version of the movie they wants to play. I do the conversion with a great free program Handbrake. You just need to follow specific file names for your videos to have option to choose resolution in the description of movie. Examples in the screenshots below.
