nuentes 41 Posted September 20, 2024 Posted September 20, 2024 I have a lot of my media in both 1080p and 4K. The majority of my devices can stream 4K, but I have the 1080p versions to avoid needing to transcode those in a few unique situations. I use both EmbyCon and Emby For Kodi Next Gen. I've noticed that both apps ask me to select a version for these files. This is usually fine it I'm just playing one video, but sometimes we want to re-watch an entire season of a show, and so we get prompted after every episode. Would it be possible for EmbyCon and/or Emby For Kodi Next Gen to have a setting for "When multiple versions: auto-select best quality"? Or is this already possible, and I'm just missing something?
quickmic 1703 Posted September 20, 2024 Posted September 20, 2024 next-gen 11.X -> That's a Kodi setting, probably the "best version" must be set as default. Currently, the plugin uses to order from Emby server. Maybe in next versions, I could a reasonable assumptions what's the "best version" and set it as default.

Ok, I didn't realize Video Versions was added to Kodi in v21. Which explains why this is only available in next-gen 11. Looks like I'll have to update next-gen. I'm reading Kodi's documentation about Video Versions - can you tell me how next-gen selects which version is the default version?

The order is defined by Emby server, the plugin sets the main (first) version reported by Emby as Kodi default. Keep in mind, multiversion by Kodi is only available for movies. All other content is based on the "classic" multiversion selection by plugin. I don't know why Kodi dev's always uses different approaches for different contents. Actually they have a complete mess in the code (and database) design. Edited September 20, 2024 by quickmic

Well... this is primarily only an issue (for me) with TV episodes. Does that mean upgrading to 11.X won't help me at all?

nuentes 41 Posted September 23, 2024 Author Posted September 23, 2024 Ok, so... is there anything that can be done on the add-on side for setting a preference for episodes?
quickmic 1703 Posted September 24, 2024 Posted September 24, 2024 I see what I can do, but surly this needs a new function implemented.
