How do I stop Emby Server autoupdating? I need to change hard drive

Hi guys

I have an external attached storage connected to my PC by USB (a Qnap TR-004). I want to upgrade a couple of the disks for larger sizes. I have a backup of all the movies on those drives and wanted to just remove the existing two, chuck in the new two larger ones and copy them all back over from the USB backups.

When I recreate the partition with those on I'm assuming that Emby will notice the missing media and remove it from my Emby server, and then add them all back in gradually as they copy back over.

How do I prevent Emby from doing this? Is there a way to suspend autoscanning/watching for file changes whilst I do the migration? I know I can just stop Emby, but we'll still want to use it this evening to watch TV shows and I think it'll take some time to copy over that much data.

Thanks

Hi.  Go to the libraries in question and disable "Real time monitoring".  Then confirm through scheduled tasks that your library scan task is set to only every 12 hours.  Then restart your server and initiate a library scan manually.  Let it complete.  Commence to moving your media around as that should give you 12 hours to do so.

Make sure the media locations look exactly the same to Emby as they did before.  Drive pooling software is a great way to abstract this from anything accessing the locations (and provide a lot more flexibility).

P.S.  Also, if you have all your images and metadata saved to the media directories, this will make this operation much safer in case it doesn't work seemlessly.

Ah, great, thanks. Yeah, they'll look exactly the same, I'm using Syncback to copy them back over so all the properties, modified dates, etc will be the same as well.

Thanks!

If the move of files takes longer that 12 hours.

I would shutdown Emby server until the move is done.

Thanks, I think it'll take over night. Just about to start now so will shut down Emby when we go to bed.

In addition to that, OP can simply delete Scan media library scheduled task and move required media around, re-add scheduled task once completed. That way server is available for viewing other content throughout the operation.

Yeah, I wasn't going to suggest that for fear he would forget to put it back :).

Just finished, it took 48 hours, a bit longer than I expected it to! All seems fine though, I've re-enables realtime monitoring on those folders and hopefully it'll be back to normal.

Thanks!
