Gummibeer 5 Posted September 16, 2024 Posted September 16, 2024 Hey, I have NFO files for my audiobooks but Emby doesn't process them. It reads the metadata in the files but doesn't process the album.nfo file with additional data like a description, rating and age. Is there any way to import this information for an audiobook from NFO or any other way?
xarggrax 11 Posted September 28, 2024 Posted September 28, 2024 I think we may be having the same issue, that Emby isn't reading data from the nfo files for audiobooks. Would you mind testing something? Start with a fresh version of one of your audiobooks (no nfo file). Import it into your library, then use the Emby metadata editor to change something, like the title or description. Verify that it does indeed write that information to a new nfo file it creates for that book. Now, move that book folder (book & nfo file) out of the library, scan so it disappears, then move the folder (book & nfo file) back and scan again. The exact same data is still in the nfo file, but Emby doesn't read it when importing the book. It's feels like it's writing the data to the nfo, but never reads it back or somehow prioritizes the scrapers over the nfo. I found your thread before starting my own, and it's likely we have the same issue, so I figured I'd join yours if this behavior is the same for you. 2
Gummibeer 5 Posted October 7, 2024 Author Posted October 7, 2024 Hey, yes - independent if I use a "real" Emby NFO or a manually created one and if it's a new library or an existing one and so on - Emby just doesn't read the NFO back in. Nothing of it - no genre, no titles and no more advanced things like description, release, age and I'm not even able to add a studio to an audiobook through metadata editor. The NFO files just lying around but aren't used by Emby. Which removes the whole point of NFO files somehow. For me, these NFO files guarantee that I can set up a new emby server or move things around and end up with the same library content without having to do manual fixes.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted October 7, 2024 Posted October 7, 2024 Pretty sure Audiobook/Audio files nfos are somewhat not currently used as Emby relies on all embedded track data. Would have to look as I thought partial nfo reading was readded but not positive if it was only beta cycle.
Neminem 1519 Posted October 7, 2024 Posted October 7, 2024 As fare a i know audiobooks are imported via media tags and not nfo files. tbh I can not get a clear answer in the wiki. Audio Book Naming | Emby Documentation But through trial and error it appears that its media tags embedded like music. I have used ABS ( advplyr/audiobookshelf: Self-hosted audiobook and podcast server (github.com) ) to tag my library. And still use ABS to play back my books. But that's another story.
Gummibeer 5 Posted October 7, 2024 Author Posted October 7, 2024 I also use ABS as a solution for now as ABS also has proper metadata search and I don't have to enter every single book manually. But emby writes NFO files, so it feels strange that NFO files are written but never read back. EMby writes an artist.nfo and an album.nfo - so it's not a strange assumption that these files would be used when re-initializing the library.
Neminem 1519 Posted October 7, 2024 Posted October 7, 2024 (edited) True thats why I do not have Nfo saver enabled, It serves no funktion. Unless you need it for something else. In fact I have no metadata enabled, but this Everything else is bloat. Here is a great FR to read through and contribute Edited October 7, 2024 by Neminem Missing link
Luke 42079 Posted November 12, 2024 Posted November 12, 2024 Hi, here is a test build with nfo support enabled for albums and audiobooks: Given enough feedback we'll look at getting it into the released version. Thanks.
