Kurt13 11 Posted September 10, 2024 Posted September 10, 2024 Hi, I'm considering about switching from Plex (used with my content stored on a Container Manager from a Synology NAS) to Emby or Jellyfin but since Jellyfin needs more work from me (I have to change how I have my media organised to be "viewed" by JF, while with Emby it doesn't happen), I'm leaning towards to Emby Premiere. But (there's always a "but" ), and don't get me wrong, I honestly can't understand how we pay for something that works well with the app for Android smartphones, but not for an AndroidTV box (Mi Box S 2nd gen/AndroidTV 11). If i try to go to the cog wheel (Settings) of the app for AndroidTV (v.2.1.21g from 17th August 2024), the screen goes black and the app crashes. I know I can use an Android armeabi-v7a apk but that doesn't seem a proper solution since we would have to always came here trying to find if some new version was released. So, how can I justify (to myself) paying for something that has a app (the most important to me) that has this kind of issues? I also tried on a Sony XR-55A95L (AndroidTV 12), and on a Mi Box S (AndroidTV 9). Same thing happens. Thanks

Hi. You can find that app in the store now. Just search for "Emby for Android".
Kurt13 11 Posted September 10, 2024 Author Posted September 10, 2024 So, "Emby for AndroidTV" should be deleted from the AndroidTV Play Store (when I searched for Emby, it always showed that old version). Also, since I just want to see my own content, with this new version, there's not a one time payment for unlocking it like with the old one? Thanks
Neminem 1518 Posted September 11, 2024 Posted September 11, 2024 Try searching for emb And not emby 1
Kurt13 11 Posted September 11, 2024 Author Posted September 11, 2024 I already have the new version. It cannot be unlocked with a one-time payment until I decide going to Premiere or not (since I'll not use Live TV and DVR, just my own media), like "Emby for AndroidTV" did to remove the 1 minute playback?

Full playback under standard Android app on TV devices currently requires active Premiere subscription. One-time App unlock is viable only for mobile devices.
Kurt13 11 Posted September 11, 2024 Author Posted September 11, 2024 Since with "Emby for AndroidTV" had that option, I thought that it would also have with the newer version. On my smartphone I can't find that option but it doesn't limit me of seeing more than 1 minute.

There's no older/newer version, those are two distinct apps: AndroidTV app and Standard/Universal Android app (though latter will eventually supersede former). Number of users (including myself) still use/prefer AndroidTV app and have no issues with latest release nor beta app versions, so you might want to troubleshoot issues you're having by providing info required. How to Report a Problem Quote Emby for Android TV/Fire TV and Emby for Roku Logs These apps have the option to send an app log to us electronically. You enter the settings page and turn on the "Debug Options". Now there will be a new tile on your home page settings row (or menu option on the user menu at the top) labelled "Send Log". Reproduce your problem and then use this button to send the log. Then add the following information to your report in the forum: Exactly what you were doing and what happened. Include the name of whatever you played if it is a playback problem The time you sent the log (in Eastern Time please - UTC -5) The name of the Emby user on the local server that was logged in at the time

How to Report a Problem When I opened this thread and explained what was happening to me, what was told to me was to install "Emby for Android". So, I thought it was a newer version to replace "Emby for AndroidTV". And like I mentioned on the 1st post, I can't go to the settings and turn on the debug options because ever time I try to go to the settings, the screen becomes all black and the app crashes.
GrimReaper 4739 Posted September 11, 2024 Posted September 11, 2024 Have to admit I haven't carefully read your initial post (have MiBox S myself, btw). It is somewhat odd you're encountering same issue on 3 distinct devices. For test purposes, if you sideload apk from here, does same occur?

Or, do as @GrimReaper suggests.
Kurt13 11 Posted September 11, 2024 Author Posted September 11, 2024 I had previously sideloaded an apk from here (arm7) and it worked, like the one I downloaded now from the AndroidTV's Play Store. Only after several reinstallations, I created this topic.

rbjtech 5284 Posted September 11, 2024 Posted September 11, 2024 After battling these same questions for nearly 4 years - Emby for FireTV/AndroidTV vs Emby for Android - Emby need to make a decision. Either make Emby for Android the new and only version in the store (and I suggest you call it 'Emby for Android/AndroidTV'). Maybe Emby are reluctant to 'upgrade' from Emby for AndroidTV to Emby for Android (I would be ..) via the store, but inevitably - that's what they need to do. For the previous (and in many way superior ..) AndroidTV/FireTV app - then make it APK sideload only - and if you really do plan on removing it - then a sunset timeline should be provided so people can plan their path. 2

But, it has the one-time payment to unlock the app? And if yes, it will be tight to my Google account? And then, I'll have to always come here to download a newer apk every time the app is updated?

No, eventually the APK becomes available in the relevant Play Store, but sometimes the process of releasing a newer version takes time, so @ebrmakes the APK available as a download. 1

Kurt13 11 Posted September 11, 2024 Author Posted September 11, 2024 And if I installed it and paid to unlock the app, it will be tied to my Google account and be "seen" if Emby make the definitive "transition" for Emby for Android app? Thanks

Kurt13 11 Posted September 12, 2024 Author Posted September 12, 2024 So anyone from Emby can reply to me regarding the one-time payment to unlock "Emby for Android" on Android TV?
