Next episode is played automatically regardless of the settings

Emby always plays next episode automatically even if the option is disabled on all clients (Web, iOS, iPadOS, macOS) except Apple TV app. I tried to enable/disable the "Play next episode automatically" setting but no luck
I am running the latest version of server/clients.

You will find attached my emby-server logs if needed.

Hi there, how did you start playing? From where did you press play?

OK, and then what example are we focusing on when it advanced automatically? Can you please describe that? Thanks.

Once the credit of the tv show appears the "Next Episode" button appears and it is progressing until the end of the episode and then the next episode starts.

Are you sure it was the same Emby user logged in that you had configured the settings with?

Yes, I even tried with other users and turned on and off the option but still same outcome.

@LukeThere appears to be an issue here. I manged to get it to auto play next episode when the setting was disabled and the config.xml for the user did correctly show EnableNextEpisodeAutoPlay is set to false. This was on 4.9.0.30. Interestingly, disabling and re-enabling the setting below it in Playback settings resolved the problem. Toggling "Show up next preview" in playback settings

So unticking "Play next episode automatically" was ignored on next playback. But when going back to the settings and unsetting "Show up next preview" or unsetting it and re-enabling it, the next episode did not auto play

@hjebbourcan you try toggling the options and see if that helps?

I disabled both settings but it still plays the next episode automatically when I shuffle.

When you shuffle or play all on the series, that is expected behavior. You're playing a list of items in that situation.

Where this setting takes effect is when you press play on a single episode.

Is it possible to have this option affect the shuffle too?

Hi.  You are expecting to only play one item when you hit shuffle on a list?

I often run shuffle on a show when I go to sleep, so I don't want it to continue the playback only if I manually click on “Next episode”

Why don't you enable "Are you still watching prompt" in that scenario?

This would be my suggestion as well.  "Shuffle" means shuffle the list and play it.

Perhaps we should rename this button to "Shuffle All"...?

I already have it enabled.

Hi.  Then if you only wish to play one episode, then just go to that episode and play from there.  Any play operation on the list is going to play the list.

I'd guess OP could also lend their support here:

To summarize the current position:

- When not selecting shuffle and just playing an episode, we appear to go to the next episode at the end even when the setting "Play next episode automatically" has just been deselected, The problem goes away if the second setting "Show up next preview" is toggled or disabled.  This appears to be a bug that needs following up on.

- When Shuffled playback is started - the setting "Play next episode" has no relevance This is reasonable. The user appears to be after: "Find me a random episode from this series and play it" rather than starting a shuffled playback. A feature request that @GrimReaperlinked to

Exactly how and from where?

It may be that, in something like a playlist, "Play from here" is the default action (which is probably what most would want in a playlist).

It is subtle. It actually happens when you press Play on the season. It does not happen when you press Play on an episode. I did not expect to be a difference. I was just drilling down from the Home screen.

in Emby Web (using local 4.9.0.30 Emby Web), select Home screen. Then "My Media". Then I selected the "TV Shows" library. Opening first show in the Shows view. Within the Seasons section, selecting a Season,  then clicking the Play button at the top

I suppose it is intentional - like for "Shuffled Play" - but was definitely unexpected by me for the playback to override the auto advance to the next episode setting.

You just pressed "Play" on a season so it is playing the season...
