chudak 24 Posted September 5, 2024 Posted September 5, 2024 Hello Assuming you’re travelling and want to connect to a hotel TV being connected to the same network. Can Emby connect in such a scenario a la YouTube, e.g. using code? thx
Sammy 790 Posted September 5, 2024 Posted September 5, 2024 (edited) If you can access the HDMI Port on the TV and switch to that port using the hotel's remote plus have a portable player such as a MiBox S, ShieldTV, AppleTV or like with Emby App installed it is very possible. I've done this numerous times. Sometimes I have to use a portable WiFi router to get connected to the hotel WiFi and set up my own network but most of the time I can just connect directly to my MiBox S I bring with me. Lessaj 467 Posted September 5, 2024 Posted September 5, 2024 When I was at a hotel recently there was a process to connect your phone to the TV to be able to cast to it, it's really going to depend on what the hotel has available, but certainly if there's access to an HDMI port and wifi (or there's usually an ethernet port near the TV) you should be set.
chudak 24 Posted September 5, 2024 Author Posted September 5, 2024 I understand options via hdmi port I’m specifically interested in a similar way like YouTube does it if Emby does not do it, I’d say that’d be a very good feature to consider adding
visproduction 315 Posted September 5, 2024 Posted September 5, 2024 What do the hotels use that stops you from opening a browser in the Hotel TV? Do they lock out any direct browser use? I imagine they lock out adding any apps to the TV. If you can bring in a plug-in device. These all come with apps that you have loaded onto the device. Can you just plug that into an hdmi port and then start using your own account from the device and get to Emby that way?

Are you casting? Does the Hotel have an app on their TV that you go to and log in? (I know a lot of hotels do this for Netflix) Emby is too small to get on the radar for this sort of application and for obvious reasons probably wants to keep it that way.
tedfroop21 86 Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 I have connected through my Roku in a hotel. It requires a Collage Dorm or Hotel compatible Roku, and a PC or smartphone to connect (to navigate through the agree to terms found on hotel networks)
Sammy 790 Posted September 6, 2024 Posted September 6, 2024 MiBox S has that built in but in the past I've used a portable WiFi router.
