Forced subtitles (mkv)

Hello, I played around quite a bit and did not find a solution so I guess this is a bug / missing feature.  Let's say I have a video file (mkv) with eng, fra audio, eng sub, fra forced sub.  When I load the file in emby (my profile is set in eng) well the forced fra sub is selected by default enven though eng audio is selected.  I should note that I have set in my prefs to display only forced subs, so maybe that's where the problem is.

Expected behavior : eng audio (OK) with no subs selected (as there is no forced eng sub)

Thank you,

HI there, how exactly have you configured all of your Emby user audio and subtitle preferences?

Hello Luke!  Here :

I know the remember selection setting is on but I tried with a new file and the problem is the same.  If I have an eng forced track it works but if only a fra forced one I get this:

Is this the right place to report "bugs" and such like this?

DP,
Maybe, since you include French in your preferred selection, when Emby looks for subs and finds the first one in the media is French, it just serves that as your sub.  It's just a guess.

agreed I think that's what it's doing - but I don't agree with the logic - and agree it's a bug. ;)

Simply put - any forced sub should match the selected audio language if available.   If not available, then it should not use any subs as the OP has suggested.    I can't see a use case of having Audio in one language and forced subs from another ... 🤪

What was the new file? if it was a new episode, then it's going to be pulling saved selections from the last played episodes of the series.

@Luke

How has this been programmed to work - on a new file, should it pick up the forced sub from the selected audio language ?

It was a movie, not in a collection, completely alone.

Out of curiosity, what results does Smart mode produce?

"Smart" resulted in no sub selected, so it might work for me at the moment, since I removed all "default" flags for every sub in every file.

I tried "default" also and it selected the forced french sub, so it seems to behave like "only forced" in my case.

Great, that was what I was interested in, as Smart should select forced sub in selected language if those are available - otherwise no subs (unless audio language is different than preferred, in which case full subs in preferred language should be pre-selected).
