Better Artist Recognition

So a big issue I've been having with Emby is its inability to recognize certain artists. For example, electronic group A/T/O/S (https://musicbrainz.org/artist/44b92626-6aa1-4596-860a-d94cde751503) has each letter set as an individual artist due to the backslashes. Meanwhile, artists like Mere Notilde (https://musicbrainz.org/artist/03d72d2e-b314-47da-a235-73d798ea4cda) have had several variations to their name before they finally settled on Mere Notilde, but Emby separates each of their names as separate artists, making it very hard to listen to their discography.

Well at least that's one problem taken care of. Thank you man. Now if only there was a fix for the other issue,

You will have to potentially retag the items as Emby doesn't really do Aliases.

But doing so would mean they are incorrectly tagged. So either way I'm SOL.

Since there is no such thing or option to merge people/artists you are limited on your options.  But to me Alias make it a users choice on what is actually correct just like MBZ shows them but they are all linked to one person.  Emby db is just not there yet.

Well thank you for the info anyway, appreciate it. Maybe I'll just make a collection or something.

There are at least five options you could experiment with, beyond single retagging everything as one 'incorrect' group Artist/Album Artist:

  • Collections
  • Tags
  • Dual Artist tags in the Artist field only (e.g.: 'Correct' Artist; 'Group' Artist)
  • Dual Album Artist tags in the Album Artist field only (e.g.: 'Correct' Album Artist; 'Group' Album Artist)
  • Both Dual Album Artist and Dual Artist

Each method has its own pros and cons. With the dual tag/field options, you should still only end up with one version of the songs. Dual tagging could also give some differences in the Appears On and Morel Like This sections. (There are probably other single/dual/multi methods as well?)

You may also get very good cross-referencing from various views/pages by using more than just one method. (e.g Tags plus Dual Album Artist). The multi-field/tag flexibility of Emby is therefore something to perhaps consider?

Of course the best option is the one that works the best for you!
