pattang_21 4 Posted September 4, 2024 Posted September 4, 2024 Hi, I have a friend who I share content with. He was logged out today and then was unable to log back in. When attempting to reset the password he got this message. I don't know where to look for this file as the server owner. I tried resetting his password via the user interface but nothing has worked. Any help would be appreciated.
Happy2Play 9781 Posted September 4, 2024 Posted September 4, 2024 You cannot reset Connect password from that login screen as it is technical the local login screen and is only for local password reset. Not sure of the client of options on screen but have to change servers. And use Forgot password here Or this page Forgot Password - Emby Community
Happy2Play 9781 Posted September 4, 2024 Posted September 4, 2024 You may need to unlink the Connect user and relink the user that same way you added them if they are still having issues.
pattang_21 4 Posted September 4, 2024 Author Posted September 4, 2024 Thank you for your prompt response I will try to get him to do that. Will update when he is done
pattang_21 4 Posted September 4, 2024 Author Posted September 4, 2024 (edited) Turns out it was not that. For some reason emby won't connect with any non-network device all of a sudden. Nothing changed aside from me downloading and logging into emby on a new server. I know it is no longer in the spirit of the query but any suggestions would be helpful. I'll pulling my hair out trying to figure this out. I even uninstalled it on the other server hoping it would fix my issues and rebooted the current one but no dice. Then it will have a different IP address, and you may have to update the router forwarding rules - or do you use uPHP? Is the networking in the new computer set to public (wrong) or Private (correct)? Paul
pattang_21 4 Posted September 4, 2024 Author Posted September 4, 2024 Hi, No I deleted the computer which the new server. Running the same server i have used for the last few months but now no one (including me) can connect remotely. The IP for that device hasn't changed so the ports that were forwarded intialy should in theory should still work no?
Happy2Play 9781 Posted September 4, 2024 Posted September 4, 2024 Will come back to does a online port checker like canyouseeme.org show Emby ports open? Have you verified your ISP is not a got you on a cgnat? Test Your External Address
pattang_21 4 Posted September 4, 2024 Author Posted September 4, 2024 The port is not open. I checked my router and the new system even though I deleted emby still has control over that port for some reason. I then attempted switch all the ports to a different port I opened but now I cannot access the ui at all with any of those port internally. I attempted to follow your instructions here But after getting to the system.xml file I don't know what the next step is. I tried opening it on textedit on my mac but then got shouted at with symbols so I panicked and ran away. What would be the next step here? Thank you for your help @Happy2Play
Happy2Play 9781 Posted September 4, 2024 Posted September 4, 2024 Are you on the same machine as the server? Did you change the port in your url to whatever you changed it to in Emby? But the system.xml is just a text file are you sure you opened the correct file?
pattang_21 4 Posted September 4, 2024 Author Posted September 4, 2024 (edited) Are you on the same machine as the server? I am on my laptop, the server in on a qnap nas Did you change the port in your url to whatever you changed it to in Emby? Yes I did. Found the correct file now. Edited September 4, 2024 by pattang_21 Found the correct file.
pattang_21 4 Posted September 4, 2024 Author Posted September 4, 2024 So I attempted to get into the 6881 port by typing the ip and then :6881 but no dice

pattang_21 4 Posted September 4, 2024 Author Posted September 4, 2024 Hi Luke, In a new web page I typed in 192.168.1.100:6881 I believe the 192.168.1.100 is the path to my qnap server and 6881 is the port for the emby ui? Is my understanding incorrect?
Happy2Play 9781 Posted September 4, 2024 Posted September 4, 2024 Assuming your qnap is on that address yes. But are you sure that is a free port? As goggles says "Ports 6881 through 6999 are dedicated to BitTorrent,"
pattang_21 4 Posted September 4, 2024 Author Posted September 4, 2024 (edited) I think I understand you correctly where you are saying the port might be already occupied. If that is the case how would I best go about reverting it all back to the original since I cannot access the ui? Is my only option an uninstall and reinstall? Thank you both for your help so far btw. Was raging throughout the night, so some clarity is appreciated. Edited September 4, 2024 by pattang_21
Happy2Play 9781 Posted September 4, 2024 Posted September 4, 2024 Shut down Emby, change publicport and httpserverportnumber 6881 back to 8096 or whatever you had it at previously and start Emby.
Happy2Play 9781 Posted September 4, 2024 Posted September 4, 2024 (edited) Or rename/delete the system.xml and allow it to regenerate as not a lot is changed from default and just step through the startup wizard. Edited September 4, 2024 by Happy2Play 1
pattang_21 4 Posted September 4, 2024 Author Posted September 4, 2024 You all rock. I fixed it all with your instructions. Have an awesome day team!
