Metadata Mixed Pull – Emby vs. Infuse Title Parsing

I won't restate all of what I noted here:

https://community.firecore.com/t/metadata-mixed-pull-emby-direct-library/50750

My core issue is that I have a downloads folder "mixed" category of both single episodes across multiple TV series and also occasionally movies.  There is zero reliance on nested folder naming and the need to only parse the filename itself.  This is done properly in my more well organized TV series share/folder; however, this is not done properly at all in the mixed downloads folder.  Infuse can do this amazingly well -- slice and dice mixed media in a slapdash folder -- whereas it seems that Emby cannot... it relies on careful TV naming conventions rather than apply similar logic in appropriately estimating the combination of TV show name + season + episode.

My inquiry on the FireCore / Infuse site was around how I can basically abandon Emby for the metadata in my downloads folder to apply it's title parsing logic which successfully pulls in the metadata (i.e. use their "Library" setting vs. "Direct" Emby database setting).  However, I'm beginning to wonder if there's any solution for the core issue of Emby not parsing the file-names of strewn about tv show files in a somewhat disorganized folder.

Emby currently requires at minimum all episodes to be in their own parent/show folder.  As mentioned in other topics dev wishes to support junk in a folder but just is not there yet.

But to me it becomes a grey area catering to the downloading environment.

Get the grey area comment. My DL folder is basically a junk drawer of iTunes music downloads and rips of DVDs and tv shows over the last couple decades. I could probably spend a week or two trying to sort, rename, shuffle into sub folders, but I’ve done a poor job at naming convention consistency over the years. I point various media server apps at it from synology dsaudio to Infuse, and the latter does a miraculous job of making sense and organizing it in its local DB rather than modify the file names and write edits to folders. Hoping for some logic like this for Emby.

Hi, yes we plan to be able to accommodate a mish-mash style folder structure in future updates. The server has been gradually taking steps towards this over several releases now. We're not quite there yet, but almost.
