Beginner challenges - emby connect and missing media

Hello all

This is my first time attempting to use emby, so pleas be gentle (...), and I'm having a few challenges and was wondering if you could help me out.

First of all, I - as many others - are looking for new ways to access my media content on my Synology NAS after the 7.2.2 DSM update. I therefore had a look at emby and wanted to give it a try. Overall i got two major challanges that i hope to solve, 1) connection via "emby connect", and 2) some media is not show in my emby library.

1) I can easily connect to the emby server on LAN, no problem, however, I cannot see it from WAN despite already having done the "emby connext" thingy (https://emby.media/support/articles/Emby-Connect.html). When I try, nothing happens, it just never connects to anything. Could it be related to network configurations, if yes, would it be possible to make it run via/over the quickconnectID? Unfortunately my ISP does not allow me to setup a DDNS.

2) I have now made a few libraries, overall there is one for films and one for TV-shows. However, in both, some content is missing. It is done with the scan and indexing and those that was found looks great and correct, but a lot is missing, and i got no clue why. As an example, in video station i have 88 TV shows with numerous episodes, but in emby i have 12 shows and some are even missing a few episodes. For movies, it is the same story.

First of all, sorry if these questions have already been answered, feel free to link to another thread. Second, thank you so much for your assistance.

Hi there and welcome - and no worries, everyone was new at some point.

Emby Connect is an optional service and it shouldn't bother you for the time being, the first thing you should focus on would be solving remote connectivity, go through the troubleshooter and if it fails at any point, post the results here.

Some specifics will be required, as stipulated in:

Hi, also, what do you mean by this:

Unfortunately my ISP does not allow me to setup a DDNS.

What ISP?

Hi @GrimReaperand @Luke

Thanks a lot for the reply and sorry for the wait.

What ISP?

ISP = Internet Service Provider, aka, the company that provides the internet here. So, the gist is that i cannot setup a DDNS as the ISP does not allow/support it.

@GrimReaper, i tried to follow the "Remote Setup" guide (https://emby.media/support/articles/Remote-Setup.html), but i am unable to remotely connect, i suspect that the lacking DDNS and/or portforwarding is to blame. UPnP is engaged and the "Port Mapper" plugin is installed, but i am still not able to connect to the server from outside LAN, as i said, i suspect the DDNS and/or portforwarding is to blame.

Regarding the faulty libraries, I'm not sure what information you are requesting, let me know if it is anything specefic. I basically installed emby, setup the libraries, let it run and that's it. I simply followed the guide and let it do it's thing, thats it. As described, it didn't find everything, and I'm not sure if i can get it to reindex the selected root folders while preserving the alread existin information, if yes, how(?), and would it do any good?

DDNS is irrelevant as you have a WAN address, but does require portfowarding if UNPN/Port Mapper is unsuccessful.  But would need server logs to show that info.  You can check with a site like canyouseeme.org to check Emby ports.  But the question of whether your ISP is using CGNAT or not applies also.

I'm saying what ISP are you using and how do they stop you from using a DDNS?

Hi all, thanks a lot for the input, I'll try to elaborate below. :)

@Happy2Play, true, but using DDNS on a dynamic WAN IP is a lot easier then to remap it all the time. but yes, you are correct.

@Luke, sorry, i misunderstood (...) The ISP is waoo (https://www.waoo.dk/). And the challenge, ehh, is slightly complex.. So, here we go, sorry. At our place we have multiply floors, thus to cover (wifi wise) the entire place we have two routers, for the sake of argument lets call them R1 and R2. R1 is connected to WAN and is the one provided by the ISP. R2 is set as "Accesspoint" and is physically connected to R1, the server is physically connected to R2. So, the challenge is that as R2 is an "Accesspoint", i cannot controle portforwarding on that router, thus only R1 can be used for that, but settings that i make and apply in R1 cannot get applied "through" R2 as R1 is not in direct contact with those units... I don't dare to move the server to anywhere near R1 as it is not a safe place for electronics (water and vibrations), the ISP wants a lot of money to put their router R1 in bridgemode which would allow R2 to be the "main router" (sry, can't translate that name). So, at this point i don't know what to do about it. FYI, R1 is an Icotera i5850 while R2 is an TP-link Archer AX1500.

This dilemma is also what prevents me from using DDNS on my server as this setup simply does not forward the signals correctly. In the past, I have tried to use portforwarding roules on R1 to the server (which, yes it can see and ping, the server can also see and ping R1), but without succes. I have also tried to engage the DDNS option on R1 and bind it to the server IP and mac, but without success.

So, in short, the network here is annoying and i got no clue what to do about it, i would prefer if the WAN in emby could be bound to the synology quickconnect, as this somehow works, how it works is beyond me as i have never "fixed" it. I simply plugged it in and it worked...

Clarety "bridgemode" vs. "accesspoint"
