Playback on iphone and other clients no longer plays - i.e., transcode

Hello all,

I have been using Emby premiere for Windows for a long time now.  I often wind up watching content via my iPhone, or Windows Surface.   Over the last two days suddenly most of my content no longer plays on the phones.

 

I get a Playback Error.   It says that no compatible streams are currently available.    

I have tried multiple content that used to work fine.  And it is also no longer playable on the phones.   I am sure it is some simple setting, but I haven't changed anything, I checked my transcoding settings and it is still set the same.

Any idea how to fix this or to isolate the problem?   Also, I am unsure if this should be in the iPhone client section.  So, I apologize up front, but I suspect this is a server-side setting.

Stage one: follow the procedure linked at the top of the page about reporting such problems:

The key thing is the server logs - they should give information on why the server is choosing to transcode rather than direct play.

So, suddenly today, the same content will now play on my iPhone client with no issue.   Something was definitely wrong.  And yes I rebooted both the server and the phone a few times before I even made the posting.   

Does anyone have any idea what happened?
