fbirkholz 0 Posted August 29, 2024 Posted August 29, 2024 Hi, I'm totally new to this Forum as well to emby. Till today I'm using Synology Videostation on my Synology to watch my mpg files by streaming through fire-tv app DS-Video. I'm happy to have this easy system running - without big configuration efforts (I'm just a simple user mpeg content from my NAS with a graphical interface). As Synology has stopped further support for Videostation with newer versions from DSM 7.2.2 - I'm looking to find a new solution now. As per Synology emby is one of 3 left 3rd party options https://kb.synology.com/de-de/DSM/tutorial/how_to_stream_videos_stored_on_Synology_NAS, So I started to install server in parallel on the system but struggled with the tons of options. Therefore I was looking into a migration documentation/how to Does someone know if there's something available? I assume many user will start migration from Videostation soon to avoid future DSM security risks.: I'm interested in following points: 1. Beside server setup (through package center) anything else required (db server...)? 2. How to point server correctly to existing Videostation default folder/default structure? 3. How to manage users - better doing in synology or in emby or did I need to have them created in both systems? 4. Anything else which is handled different between Videostation and emby? Maybe it's already discussed in this community but I didn't found this by searching for Videostation and synology? regards Franc
fbirkholz 0 Posted August 30, 2024 Author Posted August 30, 2024 Update - Finally I was able to find some solutions and made a little progress. (Just adding this here - if somebody having same issue): 1. I had to allow explicit rights for the pre-defined video directory share (default: volume1/video) to hidden system-user emby. This user has been created during setup but not default-folder assigned 2a. Although I had an existing folder with files I had to add a new Library to the user emby. (Seems emby is not copying configs from existing synology environment.) 2b. After getting this library scanned you have to re-arrange meta-data - it's not getting this from existing synology videostation config-db 3. I created a "Streaming User" copying config from the system-user With this setup I'm able to view some my stored video-files from synology in Webbrowser 4. Installed emby FireTV App and added local IP+streaming user I can see the Main Menu with libraries and can watch photos.and some of my stored videos. Unfortunately not all videos that I can view on Web are viewable in FireTV - just getting sandclock during play and interruption without message after 30 sec. Does anybody know how this could be fixed or is FireTV App-client still a beta version (FireTV App is showing: version 2.1.14a in test expire on 14th Sept.in settings) regards Franc

fbirkholz 0 Posted August 30, 2024 Author Posted August 30, 2024 Ah ok - wasn't aware that the Client is only a trial version - will go with unlock version as soon button is available. Love the matrix - why not linking this on Emby Premiere?. Regarding issue just shared with engineers, directly from app-debug log, here is requested description-detail: Emby-SRV installed on Synology. Using Emby-FireTV with emby-svc user. When trying to watch movie: 7 Zwerge 1 - Maenner allein im Wald (20.12.09 - HQ).avi (arround 12:08 CET) Only sandclock is running but no video played. But watching same video directly on synology server with web-client is working.

Quote Please attach the server log from the time frame the activity occurred. See the section below titled Emby Server Logs. Please supply the full and complete log file, and avoid attempting to extract relevant sections. Everything is relevant to us. If a server transcoding log (ffmpeg log) was also generated during playback (in the server logs folder), please attach that as well. If you are using the Roku or Android TV specific app, please also follow the instructions below to send a log from the app. Quote Emby for Android TV/Fire TV and Emby for Roku Logs These apps have the option to send an app log to us electronically. You enter the settings page and turn on the "Debug Options". Now there will be a new tile on your home page settings row (or menu option on the user menu at the top) labelled "Send Log". Reproduce your problem and then use this button to send the log. Then add the following information to your report in the forum: Exactly what you were doing and what happened. Include the name of whatever you played if it is a playback problem The time you sent the log (in Eastern Time please - UTC -5) The name of the Emby user on the local server that was logged in at the time You can also download standard Android app from your store (or sideload from here) and see how does that compare. fbirkholz 0 Posted August 30, 2024 Author Posted August 30, 2024 Here it comes, as firetv not having screenshot it's just a photo thx
fbirkholz 0 Posted August 30, 2024 Author Posted August 30, 2024 While this is screenshot taken on web-client from synology viewed by windows in latest chrome browser which is the working once.

Would that mean AUTO setting is not recognizing correct streaming rate on android, while doing correct in web-client? And I've to reduce this to 1MBps for all videos?
GrimReaper 4739 Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 That was just a test to trigger transcoding and compare the results, as that item was trying to DirectPlay and failing, the exact reasons for that you'd have to wait for the Devs input based on in-app log you provided/sent electronically previously. @ebr 4 minutes ago, fbirkholz said: Would that mean AUTO setting is not recognizing correct streaming rate on android, while doing correct in web-client? No, it has to do with media played, seeing that is an avi file it's likely XviD or DivX or some other MPEG flavor and client app is trying to DirectPlay them on unsupported hardware instead of transcoding (as web app does, notice the reason for transcoding in WebUI Stats for Nerds: Converting to compatible container), you can post ffmpeg log and/or wait for Devs' comment based on same in-app logs sent previously. ebr 16169 Posted August 30, 2024 Posted August 30, 2024 Hi. From your app log it looks like playback just never starts. Its an AVI container which can be problematic. Can you try re-packaging to an mkv and see if that works? Also, can you try searching for our standard android app (Just "Emby" on Amazon and "Emby for Android on Google) on the same device's app store and see how that compares? Thanks.
