Jellyfin convert on the fly to mp4. It's just a container change. There use to be a specific option, now it is enabled based on what you set on the player. For instance, I have an option to use fmp4 which enable hvec and a 1 through hlg profile. Doing so make transmuxing to mp4 with dv not working anymore on my test. So it's off for me.

FYI the WebOS 25 that rolled out last week (at least for the C3/G3 series, for 2023 models I'm not sure which others got it) now natively play DV in .mkv containers.

Be careful what you ask for, in Emby you used to be able to take a hybrid DV Profile 8.1 with HDR10 fallback file and drop it in a mkv if you wanted it to play as HDR10 or put it in a mp4 if you wanted it to play it as DV. After last weeks WebOS update it now plays as DV no matter which it's in, which seems to be what most everyone was wanting. I for one will miss the ability to pick either/or just by choosing the correct container and I haven't figured out a way to force it to play as HDR10. .

Just to clarify, the change in behavior is actually due to changes in the LG video player. It's not something that we have control over.

That's good news (as far as this thread goes).

Out of curiosity, why would you want to use HDR10 over DV? My understanding is that DV was the superior format, but is it a case of a DV master can be worse than the HDR10 equiv?

Just one little out of topic question: how do you identify WebOS 25 version? I looked everywhere in my TV settings, and all that I found is v. 6.5.3-47

EDIT: found an answer... seems that my 2021 TV is not on the same numerotation scheme...

I read about mp4 conversion... i prefer to exclude releases with DV tags and keep HDR only....

I've tried the conversion trick before...too many errors , quality loss , some incompatibilities.... lots of manual interventions not really usefull in an automated setup...

but maybe I did not configure well....

Short answer is I don't know any better and can't see the difference, some of my usual devices don't have DV capability built in so I've just always just chosen HDR for my library since everything I stream to handles it direct streamed w/no transcoding or tone mapping

If you mean converting mp4 to mkv and vice versa then mkv and mp4 are just containers, as in they contain the data.
The data it self (movies and audio) are not touched when converting so will remain the same.

Is there a reason why on-the-fly remux to mp4 cannot be implemented? Is there an existing feature request for this change?
