juro1971 11 Posted August 29, 2024 Posted August 29, 2024 Hi all, a mentioned in the headline. I changed all my folders in all my libraries (unfortunately rescan requirred) to an external USB 3 drive connected to my Raspi 4b mounted as network drive. I saw that some movies were missing, so I tried to remove the folder. Failed, I added the same folder again. Now I have the network folder twice. So I tried to remove the whole library. Failed with the result that the emby process takes 100% CPU. Only restart helped. Please see logs enclosed. Permissions should be ok. emby as well as samba share have full user rights and I can access the folder via Windows without any problems. Thanks Juro embyserver-63860531445.txt embyserver (1).txt embyserver-63860527068.txt
Happy2Play 9780 Posted August 29, 2024 Posted August 29, 2024 Dev may have to comment as only one log (embyserver-63860531445) shows the delete attempts not sure if debug logging would show more info as there are no errors . Only I would think there should be errors but can only guess something with the smb paths.
juro1971 11 Posted August 29, 2024 Author Posted August 29, 2024 (edited) Please fin a new log now with debug level. I first tried to delete path 1, then path 2, then the whole library, where PI CPU consuming increases to 100%. Restarted emby then. The folder where I have issues with is smb://192.168.178.61/dietpi_elements/Videos/Kids/Filme. You see them twice in the log. embyserver (1).txt Edited August 29, 2024 by juro1971

Well, that's what I know. In the meantime, this stuff is really annoying. This whole linux network stuff is a nightmare. I spent the whole week and thought O could finish my work and now everthing starts from the beginning ... I also found out that very often the hd wakes up from standby even when you just start emby without starting a video ... same on Kodi using Kodi next gen. Best obviously would be running emby on a windows machine. The network handling is so easy. External HDS can be switched of and on without complicated mounting ...
juro1971 11 Posted September 2, 2024 Author Posted September 2, 2024 Can somebody help here? These cases are very painfull. I can not set up my whole environment and start from scratch
adminExitium 355 Posted September 3, 2024 Posted September 3, 2024 This is about as expected. You will need to leave the process running at 100% and wait until it finishes. There is no progress bar or notification to indicate how much time is left. It may be easier to stop Emby, rename the existing directory to a random directory, create an empty directory with the same name as the existing directory, scan that newly empty directory and delete that instead, which is a lot quicker in my experience. juro1971 11 Posted September 3, 2024 Author Posted September 3, 2024 Hi @adminExitium, thanks for your reply. Well an unconventional approach.... But such a process is really painful. The scan process takes ages, Then a deleting process the same. In the meantime I switch back to my former setup. My external HD is connected to my nvidia shield. The overall network Linux network stuff is a pain in the ass when you are used to use Windows. The handling on the shield is similar to Windows. Yoz don't have to mount and unmount drives on the command line.... I could sware that I used the forum search to search for similar posts .... but nothing was found Greetings
SShzin 32 Posted September 7, 2024 Posted September 7, 2024 I've had a similar issue for quite a while now. The library itself is gone, but the files can still be found using the search function. The files have been deleted but it's still giving me odd issues basically remaining in the database. Logs are filled with directory can not be found errors.

HI @SShzin, I don't believe it's possible to create this situation anymore on the latest versions, but you may have been impacted due to a defect in a previous version. It may require a fresh start with the database to get this corrected. 1
SShzin 32 Posted September 8, 2024 Posted September 8, 2024 @LukeCan that defect not be corrected with any other way? That is a pretty bad defect to force the end user to start from scratch. I'd much prefer if a future update were to fix that defect rather than deleting and starting over.

I will backup the database as it is and will proceed with any cleanup operations if you will allow me the opportunity to do so. Please advise further. Edited September 30, 2024 by SShzin
juro1971 11 Posted October 1, 2024 Author Posted October 1, 2024 (edited) To be honest, there is a lot to improve changing or deleting media pathes in the library. Emby does not work as expected here from an end user perspective. Change is not supported at all. You have to delete a path, waiting for ages (no message at all), and rescan more less the same information on just with a slightly different path and waiting again for ages. The progress bar here does also not work sufficiently. Reproducible the last 8 percent take 92 percent of the scan time. From my point of view these are totally common uses cases. I was able to get around this by: - Creating a new directory (Fully empty) and binding it to what Emby sees as the original directory - Creating a new library in Emby with this path - Scan Now the metadata is being removed and items are being removed from the database. 1
