tbob22 2 Posted August 28, 2024 Posted August 28, 2024 (edited) I'm trying out Emby and am wondering if it supports MPC-HC resume/progress data, like if I close the player if it could tell Emby where it was last at and if you click play again if it can resume where last left off. In the free version it doesn't seem to work, playback works fine but once I'm back in Emby it just shows the movie was watched and it starts the video from the beginning on second play. Is this something only included with Premiere? I am using MadVR with projector for a much better solution for tonemapping considering the limitations of projectors in terms of brightness. I'm not against trying a different player but it needs to support Directshow filters like MPC-HC. In MPC-HC external player command line arguments I have the following: {path} /fullscreen /start {ms} Thanks! Edit: Sorry just realized I posted this under Server. This is the desktop app - from the website not the MS store. Edited August 28, 2024 by tbob22
Luke 42079 Posted August 28, 2024 Posted August 28, 2024 Hi, it does not, no. The external player mechanism is generic and doesn't have any special sauce for certain players. As you've noticed, you can pass the starting point on your command line to launch the player, but there is no universal way to know what time the player ended at.

I think the tonemapping in Emby does look a bit better than default MPV for high apl scenes but it's losing quite a bit of shadow detail in low apl scenes. Maybe it could be improved by adjusting the mpv.conf, I have played with that previously but could just never get it to look at the same level as madvr with the very quick dynamic tonemapping. If there was some way to write back the current point from the external player I'd definitely be considering a lifetime license and make a full switch. I currently use Jellyfin and a modified powershell script to launch MPC-HC but it still doesn't write back the play point so I'm kind of at the same place. Edited August 28, 2024 by tbob22 1
tbob22 2 Posted August 28, 2024 Author Posted August 28, 2024 I'm sure you've heard it all before but here's an example why MadVR improves the experience so much on lower contrast displays (like many projectors): Emby MadVR 1
