Im not currently using Emby , Im using plex but it's been a disaster with Nvidia Shield as a server.

my question is , if i buy the full premium , and i add like 25 people friends and family for example , and some of them uses fire stick / roku / smart Tv's / IOS / Will they have to pay anythinng to use the emby client to watch from my server?

The answer is no. The clients for Emby are free, and they are available on the platforms you suggested. Some smart tvs may or may not have the client in their download list - but even at that, if it has a web browser it can still get to your server via web interface. firestick, android, ios, and roku all have the app and all are free.

btw - I use both plex and emby, but I have been with emby (formerly mb) for the longest.

thanks, that's hat i figured but was just making sure, so buying a license basically makes the users being able to acess more stuff including transcoding HW

it's same as plex basically.

Hi.  The apps are free as long as you are subscribed to Premiere.  However, there is a device limit and 25 users would certainly go over the standard one.

Is there a limit to Emby Premiere?

Aside from Premiere queries - for 25 users (or even fraction of that) Android server on Shield might not be advisable solution, among other things you're bound to hit I/O issues rather sooner than later and your overall experience will be quite poor subsequently.

I got 2 shield and usualy add like 5 people per shield  , so i would create 2 servers on shield and 1 server on Nuc I7  , spreading users access through 3 or 4 plex servers.

deff not 25 on same server.

but if i use 4-5 places in the house to access my emby servers do that count on the "25 device limit " or only when it's actually in use " example ( 25 concurrent)?

if my devices counts also , then that's deff not a lot or devices. I know why there is a limit on the devices and why it was implemented , but if we buy the premier do ours count as devices.

thanks

Yes, if using Premiere features.

No, device limit is not concurrent devices usage but devices using Premiere features (tracked for about a week).

They do if using Premiere features - Premiere subscription is server feature, not client feature .

The Shield is a very poor server for Plex or Emby unless the library is small and the number of users is also small.

My suggestion is, before doing anything else, is find a much more powerful device to be your server.

As far as your question about payment goes: If you have premium I believe the devices locally connected come free but remotely connected devices, except for Rokus, will have a one time fee to purchase the app for their account.

Since Emby does offer a monthly sub for premium I suggest trying that for a few months to see if things work for you and, if they do, then upgrading to lifetime.
Most questions on usage are answered by simply trying it out. The lifetime purchase is irreversible but the monthly can be stopped at any time.

BTW: I have a lifetime license for both Plex and Emby but I no longer have any Plex installation as I found it horrible to use regardless of the server's quality.

Where did you get that from?  Any client anywhere can connect to a server with Premium without an additional payment.

Hi, it’s in the store so you don’t really need to sideload.
