ElwoodBlues 1 Posted August 25, 2024 Posted August 25, 2024 Hey everyone.. Hope you can help me out with a problem that has been driving me nuts.. Let me try to explain.. Last month my RecordedTV content outgrew its dedicated hard drive on my Emby server. So, I shut down the server, moved all my Recorded TV content to my NAS. Restarted Emby and changed the contents path. Rebooted Emby and everything worked fine. All my RecordedTV content was found & all was right with the world. At least until the next day. When I found a second RecordedTV folder in the library section of Emby setup. So, I repeated the above process except I used the UNC instead of direct path... The next day.. boom. again I have a second RecordedTV folder. The worst part is, the server starts writing RecordedTV shows back to the local drive.. But not the big one ( that is now empty ).. but the boot drive @ C:\Users\#####\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\programdata\data\livetv\recordings I've gone though this more than a dozen times trying anything I can think of.. Nothing stops the second library from returning. So.. does anyone have any ideas? Has anyone else dealt with this? Thanks much.

Happy2Play 9780 Posted August 25, 2024 Posted August 25, 2024 Can you post a server log. But a wild guess would be permissions and falling back to default locations.
ElwoodBlues 1 Posted August 25, 2024 Author Posted August 25, 2024 Thanks. Here you go.. embyserver(1).txt

ElwoodBlues 1 Posted August 25, 2024 Author Posted August 25, 2024 Since we spoke last.. It did it again..all by itself.. Created a new "Recordings' library with the default path and began storing recorded TV shows there. I assume you only want the first page of the advance tab? 1-1 is the 'real' library and shows the proper path. 2-1 is the ghost library that Emby created on its own and has the 'default' path. I'll send the server log again since the unwanted behavior might be included. embyserver(2).txt
pwhodges 2012 Posted August 25, 2024 Posted August 25, 2024 Have you tried removing the library from Emby altogether and doing a library scan to clear it out from the database before then re-adding it in the new location? Paul
ElwoodBlues 1 Posted August 25, 2024 Author Posted August 25, 2024 You mean both of them.. at the same time? Nope.. I've just done re-scans after recombining the 2 libraries and deleting the rouge library.. I'll give it a shot though.. but, I'll bet u a fiver it don't work..
Solution Neminem 1518 Posted August 25, 2024 Solution Posted August 25, 2024 (edited) Not sure if this matters, but check if this is set correctly. Mine is set to the same path as my Recording path. Edited August 25, 2024 by JayceDK

The point is to remove the references in the database to items with the wrong path. When replacing the same items in one go this doesn't seem to happen. Paul
ElwoodBlues 1 Posted August 25, 2024 Author Posted August 25, 2024 I appreciate all of the help... JayceDK, your suggestion of looking under the LiveTV tab is interesting. Each of these were un-selected/blank but if I clicked on any of them they auto populate and force a decision. I hope that Emby looks at this/changes this in the future to populate the choice the machine made so it can be seen and known. Ok.. last night I did as pwhodges suggested. In addition I also changed the name of the recorded tv library to "TV Recordings" in order to be sure any links from the former library to the new one are cut in the database and recreated accurately. The result was that again, there are 2 tv recordings libraries. One named 'Recordings' one named 'TV Recordings' . and Emby is still writing new recordings to the local C drive. So. I'm going to follow up with JayceDK's suggestion and manually select the paths in the LiveTV section and see what happens. The main issue is the wiring of new content to the boot drive. If that is fixed I could live with copying everything from TV Recordings over to Recordings and letting Emby call the library whatever it wants to. pwhodges, you owe me a pint Ok, so where does that leave us? Can you think of anything else to try? embyserver(3).txt

They do not force a decision. They can all be blanked out.
ElwoodBlues 1 Posted August 25, 2024 Author Posted August 25, 2024 Has to be some sort of decision already made by emby where to write these things.. TV is being recorded and written and I didn't have any direct input on where the shows would be written to.

If you don't do that, then it will be recorded to the server's data folder. Does that answer your question?

First, you have a path you can set in the library itself. There is nothing there that also says that you should also check under 'live TV' ( if that is what you happen to be recording ).. Even if you go there.. and even if you hit the 'advanced' tab the selections are blank unless the user also clicks on the drop down menu. Not very intuitive at all.. I'm still waiting to see if any of the suggestions stops the duplicate library problem.

A library that you’ve already added in Emby library setup in other words.

Could we work on that first please?
Luke 42077 Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 @ElwoodBlueshave you updated to Emby Server 4.8.10 and tried again? Has that helped?

I've rebuilded the entire libraries, it was working fine until Emby started to lose them, randomly. First i was losing my Movies library but now it affects my Tv Shows too. Nothing gets deleted within the storage. It seems that Emby loses it points of contact and then drop everything This is unrelated to the Live TV recoring path issue covered by this topic so I will be moving your post to a new topic
