Is it possible to add an alphapicker to some collection screens?

I have a few collections with hundreds of entries and it would be convenient if there were an alpha picker to help navigate them  

It is not imperative at all as I can, most of the time, emulate the collection by judicious use of filters and sorts but it is better, for me, to use collections rather than the somewhat complex filters and sorts. 

Of course the only field that really lends itself to sorting is the sort field so I do not really care if there is an alphapicker of any sort for collections that are sorted any other way.
