Playable Enhanced Home Screen

I know there's other threads about this, but are we ever going to get an EHS thats actually clickable / actionable  ?

I mean like last night using the Android app, the EHS showed Gravity and I thought, thats an idea. I couldn't just click Play,  I had to go to Movies, move the cursor to the alphapicker, go down to G and look for Gravity, find its not there, remember I was filtering for 4K movies (not exactly Embys fault of course), remove the filter, go back to G, find Gravity and press Play.

On the Home screen -

There's nowhere to click If I actually want to watch Twice Two, I have to go and find it.

Maybe that should be removed. The only purpose for that was to do something more interesting than having nothing show.

Let's not do that. It's actually a really good way of surfacing content you may have otherwise forgotten - we're just asking for a way to either "Go To Item" or somehow play it directly from there.

@Luke  maybe make the item title a clickable item, we then can go to the item or start it playing?(yellow boxed) or add a play button to the title, but as other have said please do not remove this option

thats a pretty weak argument for, i can't be bothered to do it properly. you could make the same argument about any artwork or metadata in the server. just strip everything back to a title and play button

how about doing it properly? make it functional and actually have it for all media types so you don't just end up with a stupid looking gap at the top of the screen

Also, put the backdrop in the upper right corner instead of hiding it behind the entire screen, it looks hideous.

The way i have always thought of "backdrops" is that they are '"backdrops" not "suggestions"" or anything playable. They are just pleasant pictures that happen to be part of the library and are there to prevent having a mostly blank screen just sitting there. I have never though of backdrops as anything other than what they are and I do NOT think a play button or any other method of directly playing from a backdrop should be added as it would be very confusing. I think the ability to show a backdrop on any general screen should be removed if the alternative is providing a superfluous play button. 

Maybe, if it were an option (disabled by default) then it would be OK but I just prefer that backdrops remain just pictures.

If people really want backdrops with play buttons appearing in random order then a separate view could be created for that purpose or said people can just use the library view with random sorting. 

Emby already has every method of playing that is at all reasonable and there does not need to be others just to make random choices available.

@Gilgamesh_48Do you notice there's not only a picture but also the item title, description and even the time it will it end if you start watching it now? So it isn't just a backdrop, it is a suggestion, an unusable suggestion!

No, I had not noticed that as i use Emby to watch content not to watch the interface. 

For me the interface is there ONLY to make watching easier and all the fluff is meaningless to me. If all that other junk is there then I can see how some might find it confusing so either the extraneous crap should be removed or the backdrop should not be used in that situation. 

Again: We have suggestions and random sorts to allow people that want a machine making choices for them to see those choices and we do NOT need Emby to provide additional confusing clutter.

Maybe Emby would be better without that particular confusing element.

I would assume you've misunderstood about what this topic is about: Enhanced Home Screen and only EHS, not backdrops in general.

Personally, I find it gives certain flair to otherwise bland Home Screen - and more importantly, it often pops up with interesting content that I'm very inclined to watch but wouldn't otherwise, due to failing memory and sheer amount of content. 

And yes, it definitely lacks the means to access that content - aside from endless clicking.

I use EHS and i like it but the backdrop display seems to confuse some people so it should be either made less confusing or the display should be changed so it does not look like a playable option. I prefer to keep backdrops available as a backdrop display but if the other crap is somehow forced then it should be removed. I have actually turned it off on my primary server but that is due to the clutter it puts on my screen but, I would turn it back on if it did not produce unneeded clutter on the screen.

We all like different things, but I find this feature neither confusing nor cluttering. It is, to me, a useful method of surfacing items that might otherwise not be noticed, which you might then like to play, but the actual playing part is a bit of a rigmarole at the moment, hence the Play (or maybe Details) button request.

Surely one of the aims in anything is ease of use, in this case reduced button presses. Also, far as I remember, the EHS is optional anyway.

I do NOT think it should be playable. From what I have read it should be removed as it serves no purpose. If people want "reminding" of what they have available the there are  many many many ways to accomplish that. 

Emby should just remove that display.

Under no circumstances should it be made playable.

I must admit, sometimes I feel like watching something, anything, so I just click backwards and forwards, backwards and forwards between Movies, TV, Documentaries and Collections just to see if it comes up with anything interesting, and when (if) I do find something, well, hence the original request (I know, I'm turning into a broken record...).
