muzicman82 0 Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 Hi all, I apologize for the newb questions but I'm trying to understand a couple things about Media Browser. I will specifically be using Windows Server and Roku Client. I have all of my (purchased) Blu-rays ripped to ISO on a NAS. I know ISO playback isn't so great even if possible. So, I have the main titles ripped with DVDfab to the same NAS. Subtitles are mostly all external files. Folders are organized by Movie Title. Everything looks good on the Roku and for the most part, it works. So first off, does Media Browser ALWAYS transcode? Or is there a way for it to mostly just act as a UI and a catalog system for my movies? Since the movies are already at UNC paths, can the Roku play directly from the NAS? Now, my movies are encoded MP4 with 5.1 audio. Roku is set for Surround, yet playback of a 5.1 audio track is being downmixed to 2CH. Why? How do I change this? Thanks all!
Kent 92 Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 (edited) Hi, ensure you are compliant to Roku supported formats. See http://www.rokoding.com/ As a reminder, Roku does not support AAC 5.1 only AAC 2 channel. See thread below for additional detail. http://mediabrowser.tv/community/index.php?/topic/10990-required-format-for-direct-stream/?hl=ac3 Edit: also the default bitrate of the MB Roku channel sometimes is too low and forces transcoding. Change this to something like 20mb in the Roku MB app preferences. Edited November 15, 2014 by Kent 1
