FrAllard 11 Posted August 21, 2024 Posted August 21, 2024 Hi, I found out that the Android TV app when using Live TV will allow Direct Play (when enabled) but you cannot pause of seek. The server does record everything in direct play though. I understand that TS might not be seekable. BUT! When I try the Windows Desktop App and start a Live TV channel, it Direct Play and I can pause and seek without going to a transcoding. The problem is that, the transcoding that Android TV trigger isn't done with the GPU apparently and it uses somewhat a lot of CPU power to transcode MPEG2 to H264 apparently, this is how I discovered that there was an issue in the first place. My question is... Why are both apps acting differently, at first I tough that the Windows App was buffering locally, but found out it's all in the server it appears. Thanks in advance for your explanation. Regards, FrAllard
ebr 16169 Posted August 22, 2024 Posted August 22, 2024 Hi there, let's look at an example. Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. Thanks! The Android TV app shouldn't need to transcode in order to enable seeking. Just remux.
FrAllard 11 Posted September 4, 2024 Author Posted September 4, 2024 Sorry for the delay, live got a hold on me lately! I was looking at the transcode temp folder and found out two 17G directory (yes two) of 2 days ago that wasn't cleared and I pull the log file from that session. This is exactly what I'm talking about nVidia Shield Emby App telling the server to remux or transcode for some reason and then create this mess in the temp folder. While doing that it also use some CPU that I could spare to do something else... ffmpeg-directstream-3d51a195-f70b-43ff-b936-c787f03f29e2_1.txt

FrAllard 11 Posted September 5, 2024 Author Posted September 5, 2024 I tried to recreate and now it does Direct Play... But on Live TV Emby uses a alot of CPU power to create the temp files for streaming. That channel is tuned directly from a HD HomeRun tuner I think the CPU usage is way too much for what it need to do especially if it doesn't transcode, just remuxing should use this much cpu... embyserver.txt
