Guest Posted August 19, 2024 Posted August 19, 2024 Emby will not use hardware transcoding for live TV when I use my Roku Ultra as a client if the server has been idle for a while. But If I restart the server, it will then start using hardware transcoding again. . These first two logs are from watching live TV that is being transcoded in software and the 2nd two are from just a few minutes later after restarting emby server and then watching the same program be hardware transcoded instead. This seems to be a repeatable issue that happens if the server has not been used for some length of time. Any advice greatly appreciated. embyserver-63859614061.txt ffmpeg-transcode-cd70fb67-e54c-4bc2-adb8-cfde190f80f4_1.txt embyserver.txt ffmpeg-transcode-8774de10-c04d-48cc-a355-d26d94ff879d_1.txt

Happy2Play 9781 Posted August 19, 2024 Posted August 19, 2024 If you change the decoder order or only QuickSync (for all options) do you still have the same issue? >>>>>> Hardware Decoders for mpeg2video [X] DX11VA Intel UHD Graphics 730 [1] - MPEG-2 [X] QuickSync Intel UHD Graphics 730 [1] - MPEG-2 21:40:39.517 [AVHWDeviceContext @ 000002b08bdc6bc0] Using D3D11 device 1414:008c (Microsoft Basic Render Driver). 21:40:39.518 [AVHWDeviceContext @ 000002b08bdc6bc0] Failed to create Direct3D11 device (887a0004) 21:40:39.518 Device creation failed: -1313558101. 21:40:39.518 Failed to set value 'd3d11va=dev1:1' for option 'init_hw_device': Unknown error occurred 21:40:39.518 Error parsing global options: Unknown error occurred Example from transcoding page. Happy2Play 9781 Posted August 19, 2024 Posted August 19, 2024 This only happen on Live TV and the Roku client?
Guest Posted August 19, 2024 Posted August 19, 2024 6 minutes ago, Happy2Play said: This only happen on Live TV and the Roku client? I am not sure. I really don't use anything else for live TV. I will experiment with watching from a browser tomorrow and see how it goes. I can say itt happens on 2 different Roku models that I have tried. I just bought this one last week hoping my old Roku was the problem.

Happy2Play 9781 Posted August 20, 2024 Posted August 20, 2024 Can you change the decoder order and post the log when it fails. Personally have never set mine to DX11VA to see if it eventually fails. @softworkzany ideas here?
Guest Posted August 21, 2024 Posted August 21, 2024 (edited) Here are the logs when it eventually failed to HW transcode after changing the order of the decoders. embyserver.txtffmpeg-transcode-56e77274-9cf6-4ea0-a3cd-a1f23c41701c_1.txt Edited August 21, 2024 by BradN

Guest Posted August 21, 2024 Posted August 21, 2024 It has an old monitor connected to it but it is rarely ever turned on.
Happy2Play 9781 Posted August 21, 2024 Posted August 21, 2024 What driver do you have installed? Googling the error shows a similar error for the other guys for "option 'init_hw_device'" but different values but updating driver to 31.0.101.2115 appears to have resolved their issue. But with yours just quitting after x amount of time I am not sure as it would suggest something in Windows.
Guest Posted August 21, 2024 Posted August 21, 2024 I am on driver 32.0.101.5768 from the Intel site as of last weekend. I was having the issue with the previous driver as well, whatever version it was.
Happy2Play 9781 Posted August 21, 2024 Posted August 21, 2024 I guess there may be other variables, but UHD Graphics 730 is not list on 32.0.101.5971, but it is on 31.0.101.2128.

I tried installing 31.0.101.2128 just to see if it would help but the Intel installer says it is not compatible. I think it may be only for 10th generation and below.
Luke 42079 Posted August 24, 2024 Posted August 24, 2024 Have you tried disabling hardware transcoding to see how performance compares?
Guest Posted August 24, 2024 Posted August 24, 2024 19 minutes ago, Luke said: Have you tried disabling hardware transcoding to see how performance compares? As far as I can tell, with it disabled performance seems to be exactly the same as it is when it is enabled but not working.
Luke 42079 Posted August 24, 2024 Posted August 24, 2024 OK so for your setup it might make sense to disable it then.
Guest Posted August 24, 2024 Posted August 24, 2024 I would rather not since I built an Intel based PC specifically to make use of Quick Sync.
Luke 42079 Posted August 25, 2024 Posted August 25, 2024 OK it looks like an issue with the hardware itself then, no?
