Playing AC3 audio format, no sound

Recommended Posts

I'm using standard android, tested several different versions 3.4.X, 3.3.X, 3.2.X. Playing AC3 no sound.
But the strange thing is that with the Android TV version there is sound,

I watched the playback information and noticed one point.
For the TV version, the sound information is Dolby, while the standard version is AC3, I don't know if this has anything to do with it.
Both versions are direct playback, no transcoding.

I have noise (zizi) issues when playing at double speed on the TV version
So I try to use the standard version.
But now the standard version is having problems with AC3.
I'll try 3.2.81, thanks.

Hi zysljd

I have got older version here  https://emby-media-emby.en.uptodown.com/android/versions

But different hardware may have different version, all my players is armeabi-v7a

I installed 3.2.19 and then upgraded the version one by one until everything worked fine. The last good version for me is 3.2.81

Thanks for the address.
I tested 3.2.81, and a strange problem occurs
AC3 stereo: has sound
AC3 5.1: no sound

I checked again, on my player the sound AC3 5.1 is fine on 3.2.81 version app.

But there is another problem, some movies can crash and restart the Emby app. I noticed that the Android TV app works much more stable.

So I went back to the Emby Android TV app. 😞

Thanks again for the test, I can't think of a reason why that would be the case at the moment.  I don't know when it will be solved officially (since the historical version can ac3).

Hi zysljd

I think the problem is in the ExoPlayer media engine. With its shells like Emby and Plex play media streams. And its new versions do not work correctly with certain (old) hardware (for example, X96).

I see two ways to solve the problem:

1 - explicitly process the AC3(EAC3) stream on the client, as is done in Plex (there is the same problem with AC3), on Samsung and other mobile platform its working fine, I see problem on Media Players only. Need reaction form Developers for it.

2 - force the server to automatically convert the AC3 stream to AAC, for example. Need know how to do it (I don't know).

But I am don't like unstable work of Emby for Android 😞, Emby for AndroidTV is working very stable.

Thanks for the detailed explanation, that is to say, the TV version and the standard version are using different ExoPlayer media engine? So there will be different problems between the two software, and my playback device is really old, the chip is S905D.

If force the transcoding, there will be a high load on the server. (There is an option in the TV version, but not in the standard version)

I also prefer the TV version, but the TV version plays TRUEHD and DTS-HD at 2.0X speed in some movies with noise.
Switching to the standard version has the problem of AC3 silent.🥲

Hi, they are mostly the same, but the standard app gets updates first. Why do you prefer the TV app?

Hi Luke

The interface is a bit different. The TV app is about half a year behind the standard app.

I like Emby anyway, and I already have Emby Premiere. The TV app is absolutely enough for me.

A while ago, the TV App wanted to transcode a lot of movies, but now it is the same as the standard app, which is very good. I have already installed Emby for several of my friends, and they have bought Premiere.

To @Luke

Specifically, what is better in the standard interface than in the TV version:

- lists in collections in TV are in one line (this is not convenient), in the standard - mosaic (many rows). The same in Favorites.

- the arrangement of elements in collections in the standard application is more dense, with larger posters. It is more convenient and beautiful.

There are also other minor differences. In general, it is a matter of taste, but I like the interface of the standard version more. Unfortunately, it works poorly on players.

I'm assuming you mean a collection that you created using "Add to Collection". If this is what you mean, then have you explored the button that says "Group by" ? This allows you to control the presentation of the collection items.

In TV interface I am don't found "Group By", but I have found button "View All". It get right view.

I am happy with everything.

Hi.  Can you try searching for our standard android app (Just "Emby" on Amazon and "Emby for Android on Google) on the same device's app store and see how that compares?

Thanks.

Everything works fine on the smartphone, there is a problem with AC3 sound on the player. The player is old and there has been a problem with the Emby for Android app for a long time, there is no sound in AC3. There were no problems with the Emby for AndroidTV app until the latest update.

Of course I would like to switch to the main application, it is better, but it is impossible, there is no AC3 sound on three different players.

My player: Ugoos X3 PRO TV Box Android 9.0 4GB RAM 32GB X3 Plus 64GB DDR4 Amlogic S905X3 and Ugoos X2
