numetalfan89 1 Posted August 17, 2024 Posted August 17, 2024 Hi, big noob here so the solution will probably be something very obvious to you all. I'm setting up my emby server for the first time and wanted to watch my media library on my firestick. I'm manually entering the ip that is on my dashboard that said [In-Home (LAN) access:] as well as the remote access one, it just says failed to connect after about 5-10 seconds. Is there something I need to adjust on my router settings? My setup is a mini pc (linux debian/casaos) that's connect via ethernet into my router which is tp-link ac2800. Thanks in advance to whoever can help
ebr 16172 Posted August 17, 2024 Posted August 17, 2024 Hi. If you are on your internal network, it probably isn't your router but, rather, the firewall on the server machine that needs adjusting. https://emby.media/support/articles/Connectivity.html
visproduction 315 Posted August 17, 2024 Posted August 17, 2024 Num, You wrote firestick, so I assume you want to view Emby on your TV. The Emby Android app gets around these issues. This is probably the easiest fix. Other issues with Firestick: Any browser app on the TV or firestick usually blocks IP addresses. It either tries to go immediately to search for the IP, which is useless, or just won't let you in at all. Some browser apps can work with incognito, but it's a pain. Even when you get in, the browser interface is not ideal for Emby Web. It works but there is usually a lot of sliding the arrow around with remote arrow keys, or turning on Mobile style and then it's very hard to scroll down a page. Never very nice on any browser app and hardly worth trying to get it to work. ---- There is a workaround: Put up a link to the IP address on some text or better yet on an image on an hidden page online where you have admin / webmaster control. I like adding a link to an area inside an image using an image-map and area-target. You can also put a custom QR code for mobile. Users just need to go to your custom hidden page and QR link or click on an area of the image and you can then get to the IP address. TV Apps don't block this type of access. Can your Emby Web find the Firestick TV? If so, great. Usually it cannot. Again Emby Android app gets around this. --- A workaround is to install Kodi on the firestick.... This is very tricky. Kobi has been banned. You have to turn the Firestick on to advanced developer mode, go to a specific URL for Kodi download for Firestick. Bypass a lot of software blocks to allow Kodi to be added to Firefox. Once you do all that, just turn Kodi on inside Firestick. You don't have to do any other internal Kodi setup. Now Emby Web should be able to cast to the Firestick. This means you can start media using a mobile or notebook that is on Emby web. The Firestick remote, can then pause, forward, reverse or stop the playback. You don't have an easy complete choice on the firestick to choose anything you want to play. You always need to use the mobile / tablet / notebook / workstation to start the casting. Hope that makes some sense and helps.
Luke 42077 Posted August 18, 2024 Posted August 18, 2024 Hi, are you able to connect using the Emby web app on a smart phone?

It's not just my firestick, I'm now trying to test if my laptop (connected via wifi to the same router) can access the ip that's listed in emby's settings for me to connect, and unfortunately it cannot connect via that either. 2. No

Obviously this didn't work. How do I set this up properly?

I have no clue why they're different, and I have the simplest set up, just a mini pc running debian thats connect to my router.
