New install - Ubuntu 24.04 / Alder Lake N100 - Transcoding failing

Apologies as I am relatively inexperienced with linux.  I recently purchased an N100 based mini-PC and would like to transition my 'production' emby server to this newer system.  Unfortunately, I am getting inconsistent transcoding errors and can't seem to pinpoint what is causing it.  I did a bunch of reading, some of which came from the other streaming software platform that seems to hint of driver issues between intel/linux6.8 vs 6.5/ffmpeg, but that data is months old and seems to be more relevant to pre- alder lake systems.

Anyway, here's what I'm seeing.  Transcoding 4K HEVC seems to work fine.  Transcoding 4K HEVC HDR10 seems to work inconsistently.  Sometimes the transcode will start and play no problems.  Sometimes it will attempt to start multiple times, then give the "no compatible streams found" error.  Sometimes it will hard-lock the system forcing a manual reboot.  I don't see anything in the logs that looks like a smoking gun, the logs seem to just end abruptly.  Sometimes the transcode will start, but if I change quality settings on the fly (say, 1080P to 720P) it will fail or hard-lock the system.

This is a fresh install of Ubuntu 24.04.  I have not done anything with video drivers other than ask Ubuntu to pull the latest drivers on install.  The few settings I did change were to disable quicksync tone mapping over VAAPI tone mapping based on some things I read, but I don't claim to be an expert here and am mostly fumbling in the dark.

I have included 2 example logs of transcodes that have failed, and one example that worked properly.  All 3 are 4K HEVC HDR10 examples.

Well, I think the issue is the HDR tone mapping.  Turning off all tone-mapping causes no issues with any files during the transcoding (but of course the colors are washed out).

Strange that some files work and other files don't, and all claim to be 4K HDR 10.

Hi, are you able to try the 4.9 beta channel and see how things compare? It has some updates related to this. Thanks.
