Hjlfmir 15 Posted August 14, 2024 Posted August 14, 2024 Hi team, Is there any known issue about Emby Android TV App remote control from server ? All devices use the same user, me. I can control (text message // play/pause // stop) from server) Emby app for Android, Kodi, iOS, no issue. But for Emby Android TV app, I don't have the buttons, only "text message" icon. It's the same if I'm in the same network or using Internet. Any issue to play media from Android TV App, only remote control from server. I try remote control from Web Emby server or through my Android Emby App / Manager server : same issue. Emby server version : 4.8.8.0 Android TV app version : 2.1.14g Thank you for your help.
Solution ebr 16169 Posted August 14, 2024 Solution Posted August 14, 2024 Hi. Can you try searching for our standard android app (Just "Emby" on Amazon and "Emby for Android on Google) on the same device's app store and see how that compares? Thanks. 2

Adorkable 9 Posted October 10, 2024 Posted October 10, 2024 (edited) I really enjoy the remote control feature; using my phone to control the TV for playback is very convenient. I usually use the standard Android app, but some videos play without sound (I guess the TV doesn't support the audio format, and the app doesn't transcode the audio). So, I have to use the TV version of the app. In this case, the remote control can handle play and pause, but as soon as I click fast forward by 10 seconds, it freezes. The video continues to play, but the TV becomes unresponsive. The same TV and the same video work fine with the remote control on the Android version. Why is there such a difference? Can you describe it? I’m really curious. As a result, I constantly have to switch between the two apps to play videos, which is very frustrating. I sincerely hope there will be a stable app for TV use. @luck Edited October 10, 2024 by Adorkable 1

My issue with using the Emby for Android app instead of the Emby for Android TV app on a TV is that it's a lot more cumbersome to use in a household with kids. The adult profiles have a PIN, which is fine. The kids' profile has a password, but no PIN. The Android TV app always displays the login screen when it starts up, but you can still switch to the kids profile without entering the password. Unfortunately, this isn't something the Emby for Android app can do. If you select "Remember me," the startup behavior in the settings is changed to "remember last user" instead of "show login screen". If you switch back to " show login screen" manually, the kids profile will always need a password when you log in. This is pretty frustrating. Can the behavior of the for TV app be adapted here so that when logging in for the first time, it is also possible to switch to the profile without having to re-enter the password but also without having to enter a PIN? 1
no6mis 2 Posted August 13, 2025 Posted August 13, 2025 I forgot to mention that the force logoff function is also missing in Emby for Android. In Emby for TV, I can set it to log out after 30 minutes. Emby also closes if I turn off the TV (Chromecast), but neither of these things happen with Emby for Android. The app does not close when the TV is turned off, nor does it automatically log out at any point. 1
Luke 42077 Posted August 14, 2025 Posted August 14, 2025 Hi, yes we'll look at improving that. Thanks.
