HairyBizRat 21 Posted August 14, 2024 Posted August 14, 2024 Hi I'm having isseus with HVEC files Sometimes when you presume them, they start from the beginning. If you fast forward they will then restart from the beginning when you hit play While playing the audio goes out of sync sometimes. Other times the video will freeze for a few seconds., Last night i was watching a show, realized that they were speaking in a different language at that particular moment so i stopped and enabled the Subtitles, when it started to play again the audio was off. I stopped and tried a few times and same result. I captured the logs but because i stopped and started a few times there are multiple log entries so i downloaded them all and zipped them. Only thing to note is the same file seems to play fine on ios (iPhone and iPad) any insight? emby logs.zip
ebr 16169 Posted August 14, 2024 Posted August 14, 2024 Hi. This may be because we are trying to stream-copy the HEVC. Can you try using the "Playback Correction" option under the cog menu during playback?
speechles 2055 Posted August 14, 2024 Posted August 14, 2024 19:51:28.972 Stream mapping: 19:51:28.972 Stream #0:0 (hevc) -> overlay 19:51:28.972 Stream #0:4 (pgssub) -> scale:default 19:51:28.972 overlay:default -> Stream #0:0 (libx264) 19:51:28.972 Stream #0:1 -> #0:1 (copy) The Roku does not support PGSSUB subtitles. These must be burned into the video. To burn them into the video stream the video stream must be converted into h264. Then the PGSSUB subtitles can be scaled and overlaid on top of this video. If you obtained external SRT subtitles and used these to display it would allow the video stream to direct play in HEVC. This would eliminate the problem you are having.
HairyBizRat 21 Posted August 14, 2024 Author Posted August 14, 2024 Ok how do I get the subtitles then? I have Emby open subtitles setup and these are the subtitles it grabbed automatically I assume as I didn’t install them

Manual Subtitle Downloads Automatic Subtitle Downloads

We would never grab PGS subs. These have to have been embedded in the media originally. Text subtitles will surely make things work better/easier, however, we should still be able to see when burning in the PGS subs too...

Manual Subtitle Downloads Automatic Subtitle Downloads I have that setup but this is a TV show and I also have it checked off to skip if the audio track matches the default language. Which of course it does but there are a few parts where they speak alternative languages and the video file doesn’t have hard coded subs for those parts. i guess those PSSG subs were included in the episode file and I thought Emby grabbed them.
HairyBizRat 21 Posted August 14, 2024 Author Posted August 14, 2024 @ebri replayed the part in the episode that has the issue for sure and this time tried the playback error correction and it seemed to playback fine at that point. thanks 1

You could always do one off manual downloads if the automatic downloading is skipping it.
HairyBizRat 21 Posted August 18, 2024 Author Posted August 18, 2024 (edited) Update so this evening I am trying to watch a movie that is 1080p HVEC on my OLED GoogleTV. The audio is stuttering but when I check the playback everything shows as direct play. also there is no “attempt playback correction” that I can see on this TVs app. how would I force this to transcode? realized the audio was 7.1 HD and it was stuttering, even though it showed as direct okay. When I changed it to secondary audio which was 5.1 DTS it played fine. Edited August 18, 2024 by HairyBizRat
HairyBizRat 21 Posted August 19, 2024 Author Posted August 19, 2024 Found the playback correction , only accessible while in the movie under settings.
HairyBizRat 21 Posted August 19, 2024 Author Posted August 19, 2024 (edited) Found the playback correction , only accessible while in the movie under settings. also found another issue. I went to bed and thought I’d finish the movie on my iPad. I changed the audio from 7.1 to the 5.1 so it would playback smooth which it does but the voices (dialogue) is so low compared to the rest of the audio. It’s like the center channel dialogue is not coming through, should the server see my iPad and transcode the audio to stereo? I don’t see any way to transcode the audio only. Is there an option somewhere to downmix 5.1 to stereo on stereo only devices? Edited August 19, 2024 by HairyBizRat
