Setup change question

Hi All,

My previous post didn’t quite ask the main question properly, maybe a staff member could delete it if possible?

I currently have a system which works well/fine described below and want to explore the option of adding remote streaming when I’m not at home, this would be for 1 device only targeting transcoding potentially a 4K HDR/DV Blu-ray remux > 1080p/Stereo/20mbps.

 Current setup:

  • Synology DS920+ (Stores Movies/TV Shows, Kodi MySQL Database)
  • Windows 10 HTPC (i7 8th Gen, GTX 1080, Kodi, MPC-BE, madVR, LAV Filters)
  • ISP max upload = 50mbps

I want to explore if there is a way to use Emby to add remote viewing to this while VPN’ing into home network and possibly keeping the Kodi interface, so far I have:

  • Installed Emby Server on DS920+ (Tweaked some settings and installed Diagnostics addon to see more clearly what’s happening)
  • Purchased Premiere subscription to enable HW transcoding
  • Mobile tablet (Windows11\ Kodi 19 + Emby for Kodi Addon)

I need to do some more quick tests but so far:

  • Using a Windows Tablet with Kodi/Emby for Kodi I was able to playback a 4K HDR Remux being transcoded to 1080p/AAC targeting 20mbps.
  • Enabling PGS subtitles always causes stuttering/buffering, same seems to happen for SRT.

Ideally I want to keep 1 library so the watched status of Movies/TV Shows can always be tracked and keep using the Kodi interface, an example might be if I have a Blu-ray Remux of a TV Show, to watch 1 episode at home using Kodi/MPC-BE with no transcoding or interference at all and the next day if I’m away watch the next episode on my Windows Tablet using transcoding possibly with subtitles if needed.

Is this possible or asking too much?
