Bubb68 0 Posted August 9, 2024 Posted August 9, 2024 Hi Guys I have a question regarding video playback using Roku device. I upload videos from my phone to our local network which I use Emby to view on Roku. I upload videos from both Iphone and Android directly as they are recorded on the phone. Both phones record in .MP4 and .MOV - MPEG AAC audio (mp4a), 30fps, H264-MPEG-4 AVC. When i view these videos on my tv via roku box, it freezes every few seconds and the video jumps around. Eventually it stops playing the video all together within about 10 seconds. I have ripped videos form both phones (Iphone and android) using Handbrake to MP4 and AAC (avocodec) audio. This solves the issue. Is there a setting or a way I can change my emby sever so that it can play videos as my Iphone and android spit them out, without having to rip every video prior to loading to my server?
Luke 42077 Posted August 9, 2024 Posted August 9, 2024 Hi there, let's look at an example. Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. Thanks!
Bubb68 0 Posted August 9, 2024 Author Posted August 9, 2024 thanks Luke I dont see a 'send log' button. Is that in the Emby app on the Roku? on the Emby server web browser? I was able to see a log in the web browser. I attached it here. embyserver.txt ffmpeg-transcode-c17fb9f9-8c74-4c66-b2e4-2cc146621532_1.txt

ebr 16169 Posted August 10, 2024 Posted August 10, 2024 However, I think we can see the issue. The videos require transcoding because they are beyond what the device can play: TranscodeReasons=VideoLevelNotSupported But your server is not powerful enough to transcode these videos fast enough: fps= 18 With a Premiere subscription, your server could use hardware and that may make them transcode fast enough to play well.
Bubb68 0 Posted August 10, 2024 Author Posted August 10, 2024 Thank you is there a specific reason why my computer cannot transcode these video fast enough? If I use handbrake to rip this video, it plays smoothly and loads instantly. I just wanted to know if there is a video recording setting on my phone I could adjust to make these videos play smoothly on my emby

The CPU is too slow and you do not have Premiere so it is not using your GPU. 21 hours ago, Bubb68 said: If I use handbrake to rip this video, it plays smoothly and loads instantly. It is re-encoding it to a supported format 21 hours ago, Bubb68 said: I just wanted to know if there is a video recording setting on my phone I could adjust to make these videos play smoothly on my emby That I'm not sure about...
Luke 42077 Posted August 11, 2024 Posted August 11, 2024 If you re-encoded to h264 but at lower quality then it might direct play without transcoding.

He's already discovered that (see above) but he's looking for a setting on his phone so that it will be recorded in a supported way already. @Bubb68I think most phones do have some controls over how videos are recorded so you could check your camera settings there.
