fullscreen fast forward with incremental speed up

My mother prefers this kind of fast-forward:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DS9-Bs4Wlak

I'll try to describe how it works:

If playing, hitting the >> button on the remote increases playback speed by a little bit (but at a loss of framerate, I guess it seeks i-frames on the file).
Hitting the same button again increases it more and more, until you end up at 1x speed as it wraps around.

If paused, it slowly goes forward frame by frame, at about 1 frame/s, hitting ">>" again goes faster, but still much less than 1x speed. Hitting it again and again goes faster and faster until you end up paused again.

The same happens for going backward with "<<".

All of this does not show up as the preview window on the seek-bar, but full-screen.

The old AppleTV also does it somewhat like this, but if you go over the buffered part it drastically reduces the resolution of the frames.

Her reasoning as to why this is better is that she does not like to see (or hear) gore in detail, but does not like skipping and missing what is happening.
Since when you increase playback speed you still see what's happening instead of skipping 10s forward.
Then it was too far forward, she skips back 10s and has to watch the same part again, and this annoys her very much.

I suggest adding a feature which increases playback speed by N-x if you press "skip forward" instead of skipping 10s. Maybe even just for the next 10s, only just so you don't miss what's happening.

I use this add-on on pc:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/videospeed/

But that's not available on an Amazon Fire TV stick she uses for her TV.

We asked @Luketo improve this function months ago, but so far there's been no change. We suggested something more like how the Android TV version works. Have you tried that app?

And, 1 question, how does full screen prevent you from seeing spoilers? That's my biggest pet peeve too. With the current fast forward it's impossible to stop it before the show picks back up after a commercial. IMO, the previous 30 second skip with thumbnails was so much easier to control and prevent seeing spoilers. Emby has definitely regressed in this area unfortunately. I too would like to see an improvement.

@joshinilswe have this on many platforms. The only difference is that depending on platform you have to first hold >> and let go. From there, hitting the same button again increases to 2x, 3x, etc.

Ah, well.

The fire tv app "version 2.1.14a registered" doesn't do that. It just dispalys the seek bar with the frame from the generated .bif of preview thumbs, and then scrolls those forward, lifting the finger off of the >> stops it, and clicking >> goes forward one frame in my configured interval of 10s from the .bif file.

I've noticed some other things where it doesnt have feature parity as well, but those aren't crucial.

Hi.  Can you try searching for our standard android app (Just "Emby" on Amazon and "Emby for Android on Google) on the same device's app store and see how that compares?

Thanks.

Emby for Android 3.4.16

Press and hold >> also "just" displays the preview and seek bar.

This app is much nicer, i don't know why the other one was the first that showed up when i first installed it.

I have uninstalled the "emby for firetv" app.

Many Emby apps now have a setting that allows you to configure the long press action during video playback.

We will add the playback speed menu as one of the options that you can pick, so that long pressing the OK button during playback will pull up the playback speed menu. Thanks.
