SDUGoten 1 Posted August 8, 2024 Posted August 8, 2024 Server Version 4.8.8.0 on Synology docker on 10.0.1.248 Client used is Android 3.4.18 on 10.0.1.100 which is a Nvidia Shield When I turn on external player and play via MX player Pro, video resume works. However, external .ass subtitle is failed to show on the subtitle list. It seems the client is not able to see the subtitle files. The only way to get it to work is to put the actual .ass file inside the .mkv video file. Then, the external player MX player pro will be able to open the subtitle correctly. I wonder if there is any fix for this? Thanks.
ebr 16169 Posted August 8, 2024 Posted August 8, 2024 Hi. Why do you feel you need to use the external player in the first place?

It's actually related to this post Basically, I mainly use Emby for watching Anime, and I guess a large portion of your users use Emby for this purpose. Anime use subtitles a lot, and mainly using .ass subtitles. The problem with Anime subtitle is that the font size usually having sizing problem which comes with the video file. User will need to manually change font size or do font scaling inside the player to make it look larger on TV. However, there is no way to adjust the font size or scaling the font size with Emby Web app , Android app nor IOS app at this moment. I searched on google and it seems people asking for such feature as early as 2015. At one point I believe there is an option to override the .ass style so that the player will just use the default setting in Emby, but it seems this option is also gone as well. So, that only leave one option, is to play the video using an external player like MX Player pro on Android TV. For IOS, no solution. For web also no solution. Edited August 8, 2024 by SDUGoten
SDUGoten 1 Posted August 8, 2024 Author Posted August 8, 2024 (edited) I will say that almost 90% of all Anime subtitles have font sizing issue. So, 9 out of 10 Anime you will have to do font scaling for .ass subtitle to make it looks bigger on TV. That is pretty much the main problem I have with Emby premier server. So, I was trying to use the built in player for Android/IOS/web, and then I ran into another issue which is this post The font on the built in player shows thee font size is smaller compare to all other popular player. That means if I set the font size large enough for Emby, it will become too big for other player. Edited August 8, 2024 by SDUGoten
